By Judd Legum
ThinkProgress has obtained an internal memo from Premiere Radio Networks listing 96 national companies that have specifically asked their advertisments not be played during the Rush Limbaugh Show. Premiere is the distributor of Limbaughs program. The advertisers have also requested to be excluded from other right-wing hosts including Michael Savage, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity. According to the memo, the listed companies advertisements should be excluded from these programs because they have been deemed to be offensive.
The existance of the memo was first reported over the weekend by Radio-info.com, an industry newsletter. Radio-info did not publish the full list of companies. The memo was posted website of the Traffic Directors Guild of America, an association of professionals who distribute paid advertisements to radio stations. The memo was quickly deleted but ThinkProgress obtained a copy from a Google snapshot of the site taken on March 9.
Previously, ThinkProgress has reported that 50 companies requested their advertising be pulled from the Rush Limbaugh show following his sexist attacks on Sandra Fluke. The publication of the memo adds an additional 91 companies to the list of companies that have dropped Limbaugh:

(31,706 posts)Premiere and Clear Channel may part company with rushbo and he'll lose his big money gig but there will be radio stations dying to carry his bile. Right wing syndicators like Salem would take on rushbo in a religious heartbeat. He could also pop up on the thousands of religious "non-profit" stations that silently pollute our FM dials. The hope is that he'll be on lesser stations and his noise will fade along with the rest of the antiquated AM dial...

a long time now.
b) Rush's audience size might be much smaller than what he has been saying for years
and that Rush's negative numbers from women must have scared off many sponsors.
Women control a huge % of the nation's economy and purchase decisions and even
after the "Ms. Fluke Problem" Rush has continued to attack women by calling them
babe or going after an author* calling her "an over educated single white women."

(63 posts)Rush has helped pulled the repub party so far to the right that they are now seen as unacceptable by more and more people who don't agree with the extreme right wing views he espouses. I find it interesting that while repubs won't condemn him for his actions only a hand full have come to his defense. He is a monster and I think many are happy to see him fall much like Rupert Murdoch. Rush, like Murdoch will lose much of his grip on republicans who will have less reason to fear him in his weakened state. Rush may have a large audience (mostly male) but I wonder whether many even have the financial means to be an audience worth pursuing by many of the companies who advertise on his show. I doubt the 15 million audience number that I have seen printed.

(39,961 posts)That he's taking the rest of the right wing talk radio assholes with him off the cliff.
All they ever did was parrot him anyway.
Now all they have to talk about is the price of gas since the economy is recovering and the jobs report was positive. The price of gas is likely being manipulated by the Koch brothers who see their reign of conservative terror being crushed by Rush getting his fat behind handed to him. If they think they can win on the price of gasoline, they have misread the political climate more than they even realized.
Unlikable candidates that have alienated just about everyone, an improving economy, and their de facto mouthpiece getting absolutely destroyed has to hurt.

Libel vs Slander. As we outlined above, slander deals with spoken defamation. Libel, on the other hand, deals with written defamation.
The first link at the top here is from Page 4 of a directory of limbaugh's verbal vomit - against Sandra Fluke and, for that matter, everybody else he's trashed along the way, before and since. You kinda have to sort through. But if you start here and work your way forward through Pages 3, 2, and 1, you can select any number of the ones that apply directly to this particular outrage.

We HAVE to take this pig off the air. He is damaging the national psyche and giving cover and validation to racists, sexists, haters-of-all-kinds, and bullies everywhere.
I'll keep my eyes peeled for other research material that will help. Meantime, if it were me, I'd start here.

(17,656 posts)"You know folks, that's what's wrong with these liberals. They drag you down into their cesspool, arguing non-stop, talking a mile a minute, yak, yak, yak, and I have to say, it isn't pretty. It's just part and parcel of the bigger problem we have here in America. Democrats like women. Okay, there it is, I said it. Democrats will go out of their way to protect women like nothing you have ever seen, nothing you can imagine. Democrats, especially so-called progressives, actually they are nothing more than socialized communist wingnuts like Dennis Kucinich, love to protect women in this country. They love it, take my word for it. They have nothing better to do than to sit around all day and write legislation to protect women and their rights. Their rights. That's what liberals like Peter DeFazio say all the time. Oh sure, Nancy Pelosi says that all of the time, too, but what else do you expect her to say? She's a woman, at least that's what I have been told. And so you would expect her to stand up for women. But, folks, listen to me, because this is not going to end. That's right, there's no end to the Democratic protection they want to provide for women's rights. No end in sight. The sky's the limit. They think, and I believe, and I truly believe this, it is because they don't have anything better to do, than writing laws protecting the rights of women. They think, and many of them believe, they truly believe, that this will be a popular issue during an election year. And make no mistake, this is an election year. That's why you won't hear Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, or Ron Paul say anything good about women. Not like President Obama, who apparently has Sandra Fluke on speed dial. I wonder what Michelle Obama thinks about that. But, that's another issue, whether or not Obama even cares about this issue is not important. What is important, and you had better get out your pens and pencils and jot this down, Democrats think women need protection to keep the rights they already have. They can vote. That's what I have been told, and some do, I'm sure. But, liberals, especially men like Harry Reid, think that's not enough. No, that's not good enough, they say, women should be able to do more than vote, they should be able to run for Congress, or become heads of corporations. That's the kind of thinking these people have. They believe it, they live for it every day. That is the type of thinking that comes from hanging out with people like Sal Alinsky. Or reading books written by other communists. And it doesn't end there. Folks, now there is no end in sight because as we all witnessed, just 3 short years ago, Hillary Clinton even ran for President! And I remember thinking when I saw that announcement, well, we might as well start dispensing the tampons in kindergarten classes all across the nation right now. Because there is going to be some little girl, some young girl living in Alabama, or some liberal state like California. And she's going to see Hillary do that, and she's going to start thinking that even she has a chance of becoming the President of the United States. I'm not kidding. This is part and parcel of the problem the Democrats have caused for America. And they're not done yet. You can bet your house on it."

In the Daily Beast:
Yes, Limbaughs tirade against law student Sandra Fluke has been a problem, inspiring more than 30 advertisers to flee his radio program in the past two weeks. But on April 2, Limbaugh will face a more-serious challenge. Thats when the new Mike Huckabee show launches on 100 stations in Limbaughs very own noon-to-3 time slot.
Huckabees competition threatens Limbaugh not only because Huckabee has already proven himself an attractive and popular TV broadcaster, but also because Huckabee is arriving on the scene at a time when Limbaughs business model is crashing around him.
To understand the power of Huckabees challenge to Limbaugh, you have to understand the strange economics of talk radio. Most talk-radio programs offer radio stations this deal: well give you three hours of content for free. (Some programscough, Glenn, cough, Beckactually pay radio stations to accept their content.) Those three hours will include 54 minutes of ad time. That ad time is split between the radio station and the show: each gets 27 minutes to sell.
In this world, Limbaugh is unique. He actually charges radio stations for his content: up to $1 million a year in a major market. Plus, he charges the highest ad rates in the business. Those two revenue streamsmultiplied by more radio outlets than anybody else in the industry hashave made Limbaugh a very rich man. But those revenue streams always depended on Limbaugh upholding his end of the bargain: delivering the audiences. And on that count, Limbaugh has been notably failing.

(13,058 posts)Limbaugh's syndicator, Premier Radio Network, is owned by Clear Channel which also owns KKSF. Limbaugh's former Bay Area affiliate KSFO is owned by a rival company Cumulus Media. It's not correct to say he was "booted" from the station. His syndicator took him off from KSFO so that he could be on a station owned by the same company.

Dear Listener,
KFI is committed to providing its listeners with access to a broad range of
opinion and commentary without condoning or agreeing with the opinions, comments
or attempts at humor expressed by on-air talent. The contraception debate is one
that sparks strong emotion and opinions on both sides of the issue. We respect
the right of Mr. Limbaugh, as well as the rights of those who disagree with him,
to express those opinions.
Please share your comments with the Public Relations department at Premiere
Networks, who will relay them to the Producers of the show. They can be reached
at [email protected] or 818-461-5750. You can also call Mr. Limbaugh
during his show at 1-800-282-2882.
Mr. Limbaugh has released this statement.
"For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a
day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy
of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke. I think it is
absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are
discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I
personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social
activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where
do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we
be debating if tax payers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are
interested in running to keep fit? In my monologue, I posited that it is not our
business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone's bedroom nor do I think
it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level. My choice of words was not
the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I
sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices."
