There are gun owners who treat their guns like some of us do our cell phones, a cup of coffee, or a bag of groceries. Put it down somewhere to get it out of your way....next thing you know, forget it, then knock it over....and someone's head is blown off.

Except a bag of groceries can't blow your head off.

Than letting it fall. Unless it was made prior to 1968, it had to comply with a government "drop test"

(Winter Haven FL): ...Adele Bing, 52, had a “heated argument” at her home with her boyfriend James Lane, 39...which included her allegedly hitting him with a gun...Lane went to a hospital to be treated for head injuries. Hospital officials contacted the Winter Haven Police, and while officers were interviewing Lane at the hospital, a call came in about a shooting at the same address, police said.

At about 8:45 p.m., Bing’s daughter...went to her mother’s home with her infant...(P)olice said in a news release(,) “Adele Bing was still upset about the argument...(She)...thought the person knocking was Lane.”

Bing armed herself with a baseball bat and a handgun and fired a shot as she opened the door. The shot hit her daughter in the upper chest and she died at the scene. The baby was not injured...

Bing brings a whole new dimension to the concept of "lazy" gun ownership -- she didn't even bother to say, "Who is it?" She thinks there's someone at her door who means to kill her, AND SHE OPENS IT????

Sun Dec 1, 2013, 11:10 PM

The kid was not mature enough to know the real horror of getting shot, but they pointed and pulled nevertheless. They know that guns solve disputes, even if they don't understand the implications. It's just a blast of black powder in the face, and an admission of the sibling's embarrassed defeat.

Eight year-old kids don't "accidentally" shoot their younger siblings in the head. For many of them, they aimed and shot, without knowing what the shot really, truly means.

Dumb-ass parents who let the TV raise their kids, and leave loaded guns lying about the house, and kids whose every hero solves their problems with violence. What could go wrong?

If the majority of gun murders are committed with stolen weapons, which seems likely enough, then they all originated from legitimate owners, who secured their weapons poorly in most cases. That's laziness in my book. The crazy ones may get the headlines, but the lazy ones have the body count.
