But I dont think Christies weight is an issue for most Americans these days. It gives him the "relatable" factor.

There was a time when Obama wouldn't have been considered as presidential, just because of his appearance.

Please don't judge people based on the way they look.

You're the original poster here. It feels like you're trying to get people to say what you want them to say, and if they don't you're going to twist their words until you get there. Everyone in this thread has said they don't care about Christie's weight, only his politics. "if they were good, solid liberals, i wouldnt care what they looked like" does not equal "if they're not liberals, bashing their weight is fair game." That's an outlandish interpretation.

There are a lot of reasons why Chris Christie doesn't belong in the WH, but basing that on he and his wife's looks is wrong. Not everyone can look like the Obamas or the Kennedys. That does not make them less deserving of being the President or First lady.

Of course that was a long time ago but I also remember Clinton being chided for being fat too. Of course he wasn't morbidly obese like Christie or Taft but the fact remains.

I'm not sure what this stupid term "looking Presidential" means. I do know that I don't want him to be President.

Ugh. fuck that ugly discrimination.

It's his policies and who he seems to be as a person that we should focus on, not that he and his wife aren't "attractive enough to dwell in the White House.

Frankly, I find this is just ugly bigoted shit.

They have a long way to go if they want to master the intricacies of looking "informally formal" or maybe "formally informal" eg, dressed down and yet somehow dressed up at the same time.

Wrinkled, poor fitting clothes that accentuate the worst aspects of your build; odd color choices that look like whatever wasn't in the laundry that day.

Knowing they are likely to be photographed, most candidates for whatever tend to dress in clothes that complement (pink shorts, navy blue top could be cute, but the attempt at "cute" is undermined by the beige sweater -- it just doesn't fit there, especially since she's wearing shorts).

Their look certainly highlights their attitude "I don't give a fuck." That can be taken a couple ways

Sorry to all the perfect-worlders here. You admit it as much when you say the photo gives him an "everyman" quality. Why? Because he's fat, obviously. Now how deep is that? With Christie, it's not the fat so much as the anger that bothers me. Domestically, I'm not sure how much his appearance will matter, since much of the nation is grappling with portion control issues. Internationally, he will look like a gross cartoon of excess to much of the world, which would be unfortunate albeit not too far off of our actual behavior.

Obvious trolling is... Well... Obvious trolling.

Don't bite.

To any potential jury I made no personal attack on the poster of the OP, rather the content of the post. Also this whole thread seems to exist just to create drama in the DU community... Much like the other thread talking about this thread. Oye.

You're on the wrong board for that. Try the right wing blogs that are trying to metaphorically crucify this man because he has the audacity not to hate the President. They may be more receptive.
