Nice - pro fracking and anti-renewable energy propaganda on DU, with a fucking stamp from a bank-cartel that gets a large chunk of its assets from OPEC, right on it.

That steaming pile of BS doesn't even deserve a rebuttal.

Yes, there are subsidies in effect, the biggest of them being the nuclear levy.

Now check the problems of gas production, notably that European production of gas is falling and any most new supplies have to be imported or produced by the disgustingly polluting process of hydro-fracking.

"Alternative Headline:

'The world's reliance on the US military to keep open the supply lines of expensive but replaceable petroleum has completely backfired, and prices are returning to their historical average.'"

But overall, something about this entire story smells a lot like a massive pile of bullshit.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/11/05/eu-energy-bills-idUSL5N0IL4DI20131105

A couple of select quotes:

In Germany, renewable energy support costs have risen this year to 20.4 billion euros from 1.9 billion euros a decade ago, energy association BDEW said, but industry, which uses most of the energy, doesn't shoulder its fair share of those costs.

Legally binding targets to lower carbon emissions by 2020 mean that energy markets need to become cleaner, but the utilities say they cannot afford to finance the costs, so these will increasingly find their way onto customers' bills.

Yep, there's the bullshit right there.

17. The data is incomplete
Wed Nov 6, 2013, 12:19 PM
Nov 2013

There is no indication if the data reflects wholesale or retail prices, and it's a deceptive comparison to tout the lower cost of natural gas in the US to other countries who do not giveaway generous tax-payer funded subsidies to prop up the profit margins of the energy extraction industries.

Also omitted is the costs related to the practice of fracking, which is severely restricted or banned in most other countries, so if those cost factors related to the impact of fracking on local communities and the environment were included, what would the actual US prices be?
