(95,337 posts)Howard Stern was so frustrated with the censors he went to Sirius so he could do his show they way he wanted to.
Rush will just ditch terrestrial radio in favor of an uncensored show that doesn't need sponsers.

(17,266 posts)Which is good.
People aren't going to go through the trouble of subscribing, especially the older crowd.

"The audience he'll lose is the liberals who listen to his show"
...no one should prop up that pig's ratings.
He'll be off the public airwaves and that's good. No one is trying to convert the the morons who support this cretin.

(9,753 posts)By a small army of bloggers and crypto-journalists who listen to him because they have to. And they're all pretty depressed.
The three liberals who used to listen to him (one in New York City and two curiously in Tulsa) for the purpose of tracking the number of stupid things Limbaugh said have been diagnosed as obsessive-compulsive. As part of their therapy, they have been auditorially diverted via daily exposure to a mix tape combining Indian Ocean Humpback whale song and the recorded lectures (in the original German) of Franz Joseph Gall.
We're seeing some improvement in their conditions.
The Doctor.
(17,266 posts)I didn't know that.

(8,053 posts)most of his listeners do not make $400 million. In fact, I'd dare say most of his listeners don't make 6 figures.
Let them subscribe... let them come out of their pockets to listen to him instead of getting it for free like they are now. We'll see what happens when the mortgage, electricity, doctor's bills, property taxes, insurance and car registration all come due and see what gets paid and what doesn't.
and the jerk isn't done with this insulting talk about women. he went after yet another young woman today, saying she was "overeducated" because she wrote a book about eating in America. I guess that one stung his lard ass a bit too much.

(95,337 posts)I honestly think that half his listening audience are progressives like us waiting to catch Rush saying something nasty. Rush goes Satellite and most progressives probably won't even bother anymore unless Armed Forces Radio still keeps his show.

(579 posts)I've tried to tune in to him a couple of times "just to catch him in a lie" and I can't listen to him for more than 1 minute.
He is a total scumbag, and I know a few respectable Republicans (oxymoron) that have him on push button in their car radio and think he is so spot on! I think the more to the right a person is the more likely he will listen to that piece of crap.

(5,763 posts)I wonder about the mental health of Limbaugh's audience, and I'm not even kidding about that. Just listen to his tone of voice, not even considering the despicable things he says. If somebody at work, in public, or in your family took that tone and it stayed there for hours, be honest, how long would it be before you'd want to punch him or her in the face? Yet you subject yourself to that three hours a day.
I guess his audience is addicted to the adrenaline "Rush" while their anger is being misdirected from what's really causing it: Limbaugh himself.
You're right. Liberals just can't compete with it. But unlike conservatives, we also don't need to unlearn our humanity for three hours a day five days a week. We function, just fine, thank you, without the daily mindwarping indoctrination.
Ask yourself why do you need something that sounds as ugly as Limbaugh every day?

(95,337 posts)At the time he was doing commercials for Pizza Hut. And you know what - I buy Pizza Hut Pizza again until 2010. And the only reason I bought it then was because I had my best friend's daughter and her 2 friends with me and they wanted Pizza Hut.
And you know what - it was such a miserable experience probably won't go there again.

(5,290 posts)I tuned into the putrid sack of vomit's show this afternoon to get a glimpse of how he's spinning this to his dip-shit followers, and as I assumed, it all the liberals fault. His show will survive this of course, and losing sponsors is just a normal part of the radio business. It "happens all the time" according to king ass-hat. He also claimed that he really wasn't aware of what sponsors were pulling their ads because of the "national vs local advertising markets and what station affiliations were effected at any given time of the day, and yadda, yadda, yadda... Hey Rush, here's some news for you. Listen carefully as I know your skull is full of lard and words are difficult for you to comprehend. YOU voiced ad's for Sleep Number Beds. They have pulled their ads from YOUR show. This is a direct hit against YOU and YOUR show, meaning they are no longer giving money to YOUR show to keep YOU on the air. Get it dumb-ass? You know EXACTLY who your sponsors are, this isn't business as usual, and I'm sure you've had some un-comfortable meetings with Clear Channel execs over the past few days. So fuck you, and your re-framing of reality. I hope you choke on something large...

(373 posts)He apparently has over 18000 advertisers on 600 stations. He says two of the companies are begging to come back and he hints it maybe because their stock is tanking. He equates the 28 that have left as french fries dropped from a container at the drive thru window. He states he has 3 new sponsors starting next week. He says these companies do not actually buy advertising from him but from advertising companies that run the ads and some companies can pull ads from a particular show but they never actually bought time from Rush.
NightOwwl

I wonder how many of those advertisers consider how much ill-will they've built up in people over the years.

(9,753 posts)verges on a form of censorship have forgotten two things:
1) It ain't censorship if it's the public doing it. In fact, public opprobrium is often the only mechanism available to curb sub-criminal antisocial behavior, and;
2) It's not just this incident. Limbaugh's been shitting where he sleeps for decades and finally (at looooooong last), the tipping point may have been reached. Those advertisers too craven to stop advertising with him before this are now realizing that the very people they pander to specifically the demographic that's employed, has most of its teeth, and buys products & services are increasingly disgusted with Limbaugh. Time to take those ad dollars somewhere else.

(2,054 posts)After Rush's statement about losing advertisers yesterday, you'd think the other "french fries" would get a clue and leave.. since they are viewed by him as "small potatoes".
From an AP story:
<snip>
.. 18,000 sponsors on the 600 or so stations that broadcast his show. He said losing 28 sponsors -- a number he frequently referred to on his program today -- was like "losing a couple of french fries in the container when it's delivered to you at the drive-thru. You don't even notice it."
</snip>
Personally, it's those french fries I go digging for first.

(758 posts)male soldiers who consider themselves gentleman, should be up and arms. Rush was given a very long rope, and this time he's gone too far, and hopefully hung himself. Unlike most Americans, Rush will be fine if he loses his job. I'm sure he has millions stashed away.

(9,090 posts)here's a petition to get Univ of North Carolina off 7 of his stations and has nearly 900 sigs:
https://sites.google.com/site/universitiesforrushlimbaugh/
these associations bring in the advertisers to the stations and aids the credibility of those blowhards and are completely antithetical to most 'mission statements' of those universities.
any dissociation that happens is going to pull a lot of local advertisers off and cause those stations to think hard about changing format or offering a balanced format.

(19,326 posts)I keep hearing wildly different numbers of
how many advertisers and sponsors that have
bailed from Rush's Blimp-bah rancid gasbag
self-destruction in slow-motion project.
If 50 have dropped Rush, how many remain?
I saw elsewhere there were huge "dead air"
spaces in Rush's show, gaps left by commercial
defectors.
