BWHAHAHA- GOP’s Biggest Obamacare FEAR Realized: REPUBLICANS ARE SIGNING UP

Republican voter, Butch Matthews, urges Obamacare skeptics to do their own due diligence before deciding it won’t be helpful to them.

If anyone is wondering why the Right Wing Tea Party Republicans are in a frenzy, one need only see what is happening now that the reality of the Affordable Care Act is emerging. The lies they told are coming back to bite them. They are attempting to discourage young American citizens from going to the exchanges by telling them Obamacare will either be too expensive or an intrusion from the government. Good things are happening however. Inasmuch as the Right Wing is being outright destructive with the nation’s economy in their attempt to derail Obamacare. Empirical and factual data is proven to be a hindrance to their obstructionist tactics. The State Health Bureaucracy in Texas is actually promoting Obamacare. That is a feat in its own right. On October 1st, the Obamacare health exchange servers were overwhelmed because of the inordinately large number of people accessing it.

Republicans racing for Obamacare

The coup de grace, however, is the stories that are now coming out of Republicans who are going onto the exchanges and realizing that they had been lied to. This was the case with Republican Butch Matthews, a 61-year-old former small business owner from Little Rock, Arkansas. ThinkProgress reports that,

Butch Matthews is a 61-year-old former small business owner from Little Rock, Arkansas who used to wake up every morning at 4 A.M. to deliver canned beverages to retailers before retiring in 2010. A lifelong Republican, he was heavily skeptical of the Affordable Care Act when it first passed. “I did not think that Obamacare was going to be a good plan, I did not think that it was going to help me at all,” he told ThinkProgress over the phone.

But after doing a little research, Matthews eventually realized how much the law could help him. And on Tuesday, his local Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) provider confirmed that he would be able to buy a far better plan than his current policy while saving at least $13,000 per year through Arkansas’ Obamacare marketplace.

http://thinkprogress.org/health/2013/10/02/2721501/butch-matthews-obamacare-convert/

It turns out that pre-Obamacare, Matthews was paying $1069.per month with a $10,000 deductible. Matthews’ doctor visits went from a co-pay of $150 to $8. Matthews has a simple message to all Americans. He says,

I would tell them to learn more about it before they start talking bad about it,” he noted. “Be more informed, get more information, take your time and study and not just go by just what you hear on one side or the other. Actually check the facts on it.

He has come to his senses and simply could not wait for the exchanges to open.

Neither of these guys has given up on their Conservative ideology. They are Republicans. The difference is unlike Right Wing Tea Party Republicans, they are honest and pragmatic. They are willing to let the truth lead. The Tea Party realizes that their credibility is coming to an end for most Americans......"

He's a truck driver and was paying $1100 a month for insurance so went to the website to see what he could get. He will have a plan that cost $400 per month with prescription coverage. He said Obama gave him an $8400 a year raise by what he's saving on insurance premiums.

He sounded pretty happy.

health insurance of any kind, and are whining and crying that they are being "forced" to make plans for their own healthcare.

I ask them, being the Rugged Individuals that they are, why they would drop a potentially huge medical bill unpayable by them onto the taxpayers, hospitals, and doctors? That sounds like cheating the system.

Why is it OK for them to free ride on the rest of us who work and *do* pay their own way, through either an employer or out of their own pocket, and also get stuck paying the bills of those that stiff the system because they were too cheap to provide for their own health care?

It's not like some of these guys are broke, they just figure, "Hey, I'm not sick today, why bother spending any money on health insurance, I'll never use it, I'm healthy!"

Showed two drivers yesterday at a truck stop how to access the exchange information for their state on my laptop.

Both got real excited, better coverage for way less money than they currently pay.

I talked to my brother last night who lives in a really small, conservative town. All the talk, I'm sure, is how ACA is going to destroy the country, blah, blah, blah.

He has horrible insurance. He works for the state but with all of these attacks and cuts to state workers, he basically has no insurance because his deductible is so high. I doubt he even thought to apply for ACA. I told him some of the stories I've been hearing over the last couple of days and how affordable it is to get *good* coverage. I told him to call. Just get online and look. He needs to have a sleep study for possible apnea that he won't do because he pretty much would have to pay for it out of pocket since his deductible is so high.

I'll keep hounding him to try and sign up. It's foolish to keep paying for bad insurance, especially when you can't afford it.

over a year ago when his employer liquidated. He lost his employer health insurance so
his union found him a plan for over $800 a month. He was able to get the Health Care Tax Credit which paid all but $225 of his insurance cost. The HCTC expires at the end of the year so he is anxious to sign up for Obamacare. I wondered why he hadn't said anything about Obamacare for months now, yesterday I found out why he was so silent.

Really, considering how much of the ACA was drawn from GOP plans in the past, not to mention the Heritage Foundations work on the subject, a republican should be comfortable with it. I always thought the GOP objections to the mandate were strange since it was basically a right wing/GOP idea to begin with. I seem to remember Newt getting in a bit of trouble in the primaries because he had supported mandates in the past.

And then there's the "for profit" form of some providers.

I have a plan for the problems which will arise when we don't have enough doctors and nurses to care for those who now will have access to them. It ought to be an option to have their education provided by the government in exchange for 4-5 years of "service" to the community. Working for a relatively small sum equal to what those in the military make. Then, after serving they can go out and practice medicine wherever they want. They would be replaced by the next graduating class.

But in the end, they said they STILL voted Republican, because in their mind, the Democrats were too Jewish, too gay, too "anti Catholic" (pro choice) and too black.

Too many of these people make absolutely no connection between how they vote and what happens.

It's kind of a shame he or his wife doesn't have a government job that they've been furloughed from.

I do wonder how many of the furloughed govt employees voted Republican in recent elections. It's somewhat too bad that we actually have a secret ballot, because it would be nice to be able to call out those who consistently vote against their own interests. Perhaps if those who voted for the Republicans trying so hard to de-fund the ACA, better known as Obamacare, weren't allowed to sign up for a while, maybe then they'd get it.

I can only hope.
