RICHMOND, Va. GWAR at the Super Bowl?
An online petition started by video producer Jeff Cantrell of Morehead, Ky., calls for the National Football League to be daring and choose the Richmond-based heavy metal band for the 2015 Super Bowl halftime show.
So far, more than 23,000 people have indicated they would rather watch Oderus Urungus and company take the stage at America's biggest sporting event than has-been rockers or overhyped pop stars.
"We don't want another year of sitting around talking through a muted, boring NFL Super Bowl halftime show. We want something different. We want a real spectacle that only GWAR can provide." Cantrell wrote on Change.org. "Doesn't the NFL want more viewers? Don't advertisers want more people paying attention? This way everyone wins."

(13,184 posts)No, seriously, he fixed my clutch. I was driving an ancient Chevy from Austin to DC and carrying a purple-haired punkette as a passenger. (She was a big hit in Dollywood.) When my clutch started going out, the punkette called a friend of hers in Richmond who knew GWAR. One of their members was an auto mechanic. Problem solved. He made some money and I made it to DC. Then my timing belt broke and I junked the car. Spent nine years in DC without wheels, didn't buy another vehicle until I left DC in 2002 and drove off into the sunset in a new pickup truck.

(4,876 posts)I never understand why people complain about "has been rockers". Does anyone call B.B. King a "has been"? What about Beethoven? Why is it a musician is not allowed to continue their career without being labeled a has been? Why is it trailblazers in other industries are considered sacred but in music they are considered "too old"?
Maybe folks would be happier if musicians all became weapons designers after a certain date.
Rant off. Bring On GWAR! Maybe they'll chop up an effigy of Snookie at the halftime show. That's what they did last time I saw them..
