Canadian dad goes to jail when daughter draws picture of gun
----------------------
The police told Sansone that he was being arrested for possession of a firearm, threw him in the back of a cruiser and hauled him to jail where he was locked up.
Turns out his daughter drew a picture of a man holding a gun in class. When teachers asked about the image, the little girl said, Thats my daddys. He uses it to shoot bad guys and monsters.
One thing led to another. A concerned teacher phoned child services and told them about the drawing. Child services contacted the police who arrested Sansone based on his daughters illustration.
While Sansone was locked up, the police visited the family home where his pregnant wife and three children were waiting for him. They told Sansones wife, Stephanie Squires, to go to the station for questioning, and brought the children to child services.
Meanwhile Sansone was being strip-searched back at the jail.

(13,776 posts)And in a hearsay situation like this, when kids have such active imaginations and don't know how to communicate the difference between their ideas and real life... it must be even more difficult to know what to report.
If the teacher had heard about a daddy shooting bad guys and then, weeks or months or years later, something had happened with their student's family, or if there'd been an accident with an unsecured gun, they'd feel as though they should have reported it... and in a case like this one where there's nothing, the story unfolds like this. It must just be impossible to be sure about what to do.

This was insane. I hope the family has grounds to sue.

(28,464 posts)She couldn't imagine a child could imagine her daddy shooting monsters and bad guys.
Criminy, I can imagine the man may even had said to her once that she didn't have to worry about monsters under the bed, if there were any monsters, Daddy would make sure to shoot them so they couldn't harm his little girl. That's something good daddies do, protect their families. And then she went to school and drew a picture of her daddy saving the world from evil. How would that be unhealthy? This school and authorities were way OTT on this.
