If you have an unknown number of guns in the hands of people with disparate training levels then who knows? In addition, they are panicked. That could lead to a bigger tragedy.

There is no easy answer IMHO.

BTW I worked in a school where I was very sure that there would be return fire. Jesse Jackson spoke there, and he asked how many kids knew someone who had brought guns to school. A lot of kids raised their hands. The teachers I was standing by we're horrified. I asked them if we taught in the same school. I never heard any names, but by keeping my ear to the ground, I heard a lot from the kids.

(I hope not, but....)
He will say 'if only God was let back in to the schools things like this wouldn't happen'.
'Liberal teachers should be fired or sent to concentration camps.'
'Allow all teachers to carry guns in school.'
..This will get him the NRA vote.

But of course this won't stop Republicans from demanding guns for all.

So it just comes down to your point of view. There have been posters there that advocate total bans on the private ownership of handguns or any firearms at all for that matter. Others have proposed taxes that would make ammo cost hundreds of dollars a round. Those ideas are just as asinine as allowing felons or mentally disturbed people to have access to guns.

The great majority of pro-gun people that post on DU favor reasonable regulations, such as allowing access to NICS for private sales. I don't have any recollection of any pro-gun people actually coming out in favor of children, felons or the mentally disturbed having guns. Maybe you can cite some examples.

So much sadness in this incident. Sadness for the students killed and injured. Whatever they did, as high school kids, they certainly didn't deserve this.

Sadness for their friends and families.

Sadness for the shooter who evidently had been dealt a life with so much strife and heartbreak...but he still shouldn't have done this.

Sadness for his friends and family, especially the grandparent(s) who were caring for him.

Pride and relief for the way the first responders handled this, the coach who stepped in, the other faculty members who saved lives with calm heads.
