...a lot of liberals (to include the lion of the Senate) would have been bounced, hard, on positive tests...along with a ton of conservatives.

Drug use is one of those things that crosses party lines. The big difference, I think, is that Democrats don't moralize about it with the fervor that the GOP reserves for it. The GOP act as though it's all down to moral failing; that a "Just Say No" approach and a great love of Jeeeesus will solve all problems.

In reality, the issues of addiction are far more complex, and the issues of recreational use of a weed that grows in the ground...well, that's an argument for another day.
