Kseniya Ryzhova and Tatyana Firova joined an ever-growing list of athletes to extend a middle finger at the bigoted law Russia recently passed with this kiss after winning gold in the women's 4x400 relay at the World Athletics Championships.

This isn't about the delight of hetero males, or selling posters-- this is about telling Pootie that his homophobic laws are unacceptable, and doing it on the world stage.

(135,425 posts)That's why they were able to do it--they are UNTOUCHABLE, at least for now.

(11,175 posts)They won in the 4x400 relay, which is a Summer Games event. Sochi will be Winter Games.
Still, your basic point is correct, that it would be much harder for the authorities to order them jailed when they can compete at the world-class level.

(135,425 posts)Pootie does love his medals--I hate to be excessively partisan, but I hope that every country that rejects LGBT hatred smokes his athletes in every event--except perhaps, these young ladies, who will race to victory with rainbow colored ribbons in their hair...just to piss that old fish kisser off!
Here's a pervert, right here--murders the fish, then molests its corpse!

(32,003 posts)What they did is not against the law in Russia. Russian legalized gay sex in 1993 -- before the U.S. The new law did not change that.
MADem
(135,425 posts)But you do know that Russia has laws against "propagandizing the gay lifestyle" to "children" under the age of eighteen, do you not? Seriously--you can't NOT be aware of that, if you've paid any attention to the news lately.
That picture wasn't taken in a private home, you know.
The two athletes are in technical jeopardy if there was a single individual under the age of eighteen in that arena, or if a single child in Mother Russia observed that behavior on their televisions. Hand holding, kissing...hell, even wearing the rainbow flag logo--or rainbow painted fingernails--is verboten.

(32,003 posts)You are radically expanding the law. The law is limited to speaking or providing information to minors. This is a regressive law but in other areas Russia has been ahead of the U.S. Gay sex was legalized in 1993 before the U.S. and gays can serve openly in the military since 2003 -- again before the U.S.

And your attempt to suggest that Russia is somehow "good" because they'll "let" gays serve in the military is flat out absurd. That place is a homophobic wasteland and gay people live in fear and danger.
Educate yourself. Shame on you for excusing and minimizing what Putin's goons have implemented, here.

(32,003 posts)I am not excusing anything -- a false charge when someone does not have facts. We will see if these women are arrested. If they are not I'm sure you will have some excuse other than you are wrong.

(135,425 posts)away" with it. I said as much elsewhere in this thread, so you're denied your little "gotcha" moment.
But if two non-athletic "nobodies" did the same thing in the exact same place, they'd be hauled off. And if they were foreign, they'd be jailed for up to two weeks.
There's no mitigating this hate. You need to quit while you're behind.

(32,003 posts)A time honored insult for posters you disagree with. I will be waiting for you to post when someone without gold medals gets arrested for kissing. Of course you are going to say that is "hidden" and "we aren't told about it." Now you can just copy/paste that excuse.

(22,541 posts)Just like I hope Russian LGBTs stay safe.
Come to think of it, I wonder why my automatic assumption was that they're both straight? That's odd, when I think about it. The article doesn't even say it's in support of LGBTs. It says it's to give the finger at the new hate law.
So, mea culpa. And my apologies for making stupid assumptions.
