Rep. Alan Grayson on NSA SPYING: What if ‘DICTATOR PALIN’ GETS ELECTED?

You might not be worried about President Barack Obama abusing the immense surveillance powers of the U.S. government, but what if someone like Sarah Palin gets elected? That is the argument Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) gave in support of his legislation to rein in the National Security Agency during a " target="_blank">recent interview with Los Angeles activist Lauren Steiner.

“I heard Rush Limbaugh ranting almost incoherently about this just a few days ago on the radio,” the congressman said. “He is very concerned about the fact that ‘Dictator Obama’ can get this information. I’m more concerned about the possibility that Dictator Palin can get this information, but regardless of who we are concerned about, the fact is we are both concerned.”

Grayson has introduced legislation that would prohibit the Department of Defense from collecting Internet, telephone and other personal information generated by U.S. citizens without probable cause of a terrorism or criminal offense. Earlier this year, NSA contractor Edward Snowden revealed the NSA was indiscriminately amassing phone traffic data on innocent Americans. The surveillance program has collected data from nearly every American — including who they called, for how long and when — over the last seven years. Grayson noted that Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) had introduced similar legislation in the upper chamber.

1. If Dictator Palin gets elected president, the NSA will be the least of our worries

She will start by pushing the economy into extreme austerity to pay for large tax cuts to the rich.

Then she will eliminate the minimum wage; she may even eliminate the requirement that employers pay their employees.

Next will come an absolute ban on abortion, atheism, non-Judeo-Christian religions, public education, Obamacare, and anything else that conflicts with her twisted reading of the Bible.

Within a year of Palin's election we won't have to worry about the NSA monitoring our phone calls, e-mail and web surfing because no one will be able to afford telephones or computers.

Will suddenly pretend to care about over reaching domestic surveillance. Of course the damage is already done and if they were to protest now they wouldn't have an argument since they've already surrendered to it.

Obama's expansion of domestic spying and drone murders has completely smeared the progressive image.

6. K&R. Grayson is right. It isn't about personalities. It isn't about Obama.

It isn't about this person or that person. It is about the power that this program puts in very few hands. That is unacceptable. Grayson's ideas sound good although I doubt that they will control this program very well. It's like the Sorcerer's Apprentice. The pot has boiled over. Once nuclear weapons were developed, there was no turning back. Now that this program is known to be possible, it will be hard to control its proliferation. We probably need much stronger legislation that Grayson has suggested, but the bill he has put forward is a good start. We may need some bill or even a constitutional amendment that protects our reasonable privacy rights.

Is a Republican Congress and a Republican Dictator as president, then what do you think will happen if he/she decides to intimidate or even get rid of anyone that could potentially be a threat to the establishment? Think 1984...

9. what if NSA wants Palin to win?

Are the safeguards they have in place enough to keep the NSA from using the data they've collected to influence an election? If they decide that the choice of the next president is critical to their future are they able to look at all of the data they've collected for ways to influence the election? (candidates, donors, election supervisors, debate moderators, etc).

I'm not asking if you think they "would/will" do these things, just if you think the capabilities are there. I'll argue that if the capabilities are there, they will be used - maybe not in 2016, but eventually.
