A statement from the Syrian Expatriate Medical Association Regarding the Detention of Medical Doctor

Since the beginning of this blessed uprising in our beloved Homeland, Syria, Assad’s brutal repressive regime has targeted medical cadres, including doctors and paramedics, with murder and torture, killing 40 at least, whereas more than 200 remain imprisoned. Last week, the Syrian authority has seriously escalated its security campaign, arresting seventeen doctors, and wounding and killing many others.

The Syrian Expatriate Medical Association deplores and condemns these aggressions; and calls on all institutions of human rights and international medical organizations, including the World Health Organization, to Cooperate in order to save these heroes, who have done nothing but perform their humanitarian duty and commit to the oath they had made to help the wounded and rescue those injured.

We warn the unjust regime in Damascus from persisting in its evil. And we promise to prosecute those involved in the killing and torture of medical cadres in Syria in all concerned international legal forums.

Finally, we extend our greetings to doctors in Syria, and say: You are an inspiration to us; your struggle marks the path of honor and pride. We put our hands in yours and pray to God to accept your work and sacrifice.
