Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center, who stirred controversy in 2010 when he burned a Quran at his Gainesville church, now plans to burn nearly 3,000 of the Muslim holy books in Mulberry during a Sept. 11 event. (Doug Engle | OCALA STAR-BANNER (2010))

Controversial Pastor Plans to Burn 3,000 Copies of the Quran in Mulberry

MULBERRY | A Florida pastor known for inciting international controversy for burning a copy of the Quran says he wants to burn nearly 3,000 of the Muslim holy books during a Sept. 11 event in Mulberry.

Terry Jones told The Ledger by phone he plans to burn the books at a rural Mulberry residence — one book for every person killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States.

Jones' threatened burning of a Quran in 2010 enraged Muslims around the world.

After backing down from his planned demonstration in New York, Jones eventually burned a book at his Gainesville church, which 10 days later sparked riots in Afghanistan, where 20 people died, including seven United Nations workers.

I would like to think he will get the same type of reception he got in New York when they sang to him All You Need is Love.

It was an amazing scene. Somehow I doubt Florida will react the same.

As an added note this week in August:

Group of Mulberry Residents Fight Quran Burning

A small group of Mulberry residents are organizing protests against a planned burning of nearly 3,000 Qurans at a home near Mulberry planned for Sept. 11.

Terry Jones, a Florida pastor known for sparking protests in Afghanistan after previously burning one Muslim holy book, said he plans to burn a book for every person killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The group, whose name says it all, has one message for the world: Not in Mulberry.

"The bottom line is we don't want people to think of Mulberry as a racist, hateful town," said the group's organizer, Suzanne Carter-Moore. "We are peace-loving and accepting and love each other."

There should be a larger group protesting, but I say good for them. Even a small protest is a good thing.

The story about his action didn't get a lot of follow through because they wanted to blame Hillary... The Video went viral and was shown all over the Middle East.

I couldn't understand why he wasn't investigated for insighting religious rebellion.

We can't curtail our rights on the whim of a bunch of primitive, violent assholes. 99% of Muslims just rolled their eyes and brushed it off like everyone else.

We don't need to cater to them.

He does not have a degree nor any formal education in theology. He's not affiliated with any Christian denomination. He's one of those self-proclaimed preachers who are usually nuts.

Attack Islam, hope to prompt a violent and deadly reprisal against our front line military or foreign service personnel, then scream and cry about how evil Islamicists are attacking us.

Dirtbag with a small cult of dirtbag followers, but gets tons of media coverage for every 'brilliant' public gesture he dreams up.

He's hooked in to the promotion translation distribution of the anti-Moslem video clip that prompted the demonstrations that were used by paramilitary terrorists as smokescreens to provide cover for their attacks on our people in Egypt and Benghazi.

I think his biographical info indicates he's part of a racist pro-nazi element within our intel services.

+ 1, Mad, thanks for posting. Great to see your posts, always.

That's exactly what he wants.

He is a non-person to me, and I don't give a diddly-squat about him.
