I think Harry Reid is right on this one. It ain't over yet.

(3,731 posts)Reid think he's gonna do? I lost all respect for my Senator when he made that filibuster deal with McConnell and he's acted like a wimp towards the Senate repubs.
Here's what I expect from Sen. Spineless, he'll spout a bunch of meaningless platitudes about what an injustice this was, and then when nothing happens, he can shrug his shoulders and claim that he tried to do something but the.................prevented him.

(25,183 posts)I'm sure that some lawyer will convince TM's parents to file a lawsuit, but do you really expect the Administration to go for the second bite of the apple with the civil rights action?

(32,325 posts)If it had come from Alan Grayson or Bob Menendez it would be believable but not from Reid. He's not tough enough to see it through.

(9,766 posts)The FBI found no elements of racism already. How are they going to prove it?
there's no grounds for a civil rights charge, all that's going to happen is..................well, nothing.

(32,325 posts)The next time George does something - it might not be a black person . . .and something will happen. . He is going to do something you know. His type always does.
Yes - I wrote "type". I'm not a government official or part of the legal community so I'm allowed to profile. Until there is a law against it - I will do so. and I doubt I will get alerted on today for typing type!

(3,731 posts)and I certainly won't alert on you, but as far as a civil rights charge, sorry, I just don't see it happening, especially when the FBI is already on record saying that there is no evidence of this being a racial crime.
The DoJ is too busy anyways busting marijuana users and dispensaries to bother with G. Zimmerman.

(32,325 posts)Honestly - I no longer believe in that con game (civil rights) anymore. What's so civil about America anyways?

(3,731 posts)while at the same time, govt. org. like the NSA, CIA, DIA, FBI, ATF, DEA, Police routinely violate our civil rights.
It's enough to tear my hair out, and I can't afford to lose anymore of my hair.

(32,325 posts)I work with the FBI, DEA, and Federal Marshall's when necessary - so I can't say they are all bad. Now CBP I have a love/hate relationship with! Every once in awhile they send customs docs and requests for tariffs to an address we have NEVER used on our dba, it gets lost on someone's desk, then they get the notification of fines to me.
But I love them because they don't give us a hard time when we have to re-import our Apple devices from China. Aside - Apple makes it vendors send every bad device back to them in China for repair then you have to re import on your own behalf.

(3,731 posts)I'm a retired FLEO with 30+ years and the people I worked with were generally good people, I'm talking about the institutions themselves and the very upper management who seem to think that they're not answerable to the American people and can do whatever the hell they want.
I guess I'm just frustrated by the steady erosion of our civil rights, which really kicked into high gear during the BushCo years with the so called Patriot Act, which is anything but.

(2,791 posts)I know how ugly, racist, and contemptible rightwingnuts can be, but I'm still shocked, every time, when I read the ignorant paranoid wildly racist comments like the one at the bottom of that article. Who the fuck ARE these people??? And where are they? And then I answer that question myself: they sell me groceries, they cash my checks, they answer call centers, they sit next to me at the doctor's office... and here I thought I was among "friends," or at least fellow Americans, whenever I walk among my fellow citizens. Talk about eye-openers.
