Song of the south.....

I grew up in the south and it seems to me that us southerners have gotten a bad rap. I just wanted to remind everyone that there was some very influential musicians that have become associated with rednecks. Well we all know rednecks are not to bright and their memories are short. If people took the time to listen to some of the old southern musicians and rockers they might be surprised. To steal a line from Molly Hatchet, The way you judge a man, is to look into his sole. Just an old southerners perspective.

What, some old southern guys talkin bout weed...

How about a group of long haired southern hippies singin bout racial inequality, environmentalism, gun control and anti war....

Oh and hear is an in your face total Anti war protest song from some more southern rebels....

Jul 2013

A king without a sword - a land without a king -
A truth without a voice - one song left to sing...
One song to sing.
A wise man told me theres something you should know:
The way you judge a man is you look into his soul
And youll soon see everything.
A voice from the past cried, Give peace a chance!
He paid our price now hes free at last; And imagine -
We called him a dreamer.
How many times must good men die?
How many tears will the children cry...
Till we suffer no more sadness?
Stop the madness.
Oh, stop the madness.
If ashes are ashes and dust is dust,
At our journeys end, then we turn to rust -
To the sands of the shore.
White doves in flight - peace to war -
But, tell me why the peacemakers fall.
Must we bury any more?
The hush of the crowd as the horse rode by -
The black lace veil hid her tears from my eyes...
And we all wept in silence.
How many times must good men die?
How many times will the children cry...
Till they suffer no more sadness?
Oh, stop the madness.
Oh, stop all the madness.

But as it stands and as best I can tell, you have a problem with a group of people not because of what they believe, but because of a potentially misunderstood symbology, a symbology potentially misunderstood both by you and the band under discussion.

On edit: I misunderstood whom I was replying to. I thought when I wrote this I was answering Carnage251. I'm from the NW and the West Coast so to me Roger Miller epitomized the Southern style.

I love his music:

also, Joe South...his name says it all:

I was a teen and Flatt and Scruggs. They were my idea of Southern music while growing up so far away from anything Southern.

Well, except for Alabama, I can't think of many more states that are more South than Oklahoma? I've known quite a few folks from there.

,

Yes I am OK with it, are you OK with my choice of songs? Simply a lesson and an exercise in tolerance! I think that everyone has a hidden prejudice weather they know it or not.

This was just an experiment, take a look into your soul, do you like what you see?

... so quit waving the confederate flag. Some people find it just as offensive a symbol as the swastika!

Have you ever heard of Louis Prima?
A long time ago, my dad's friend used to fill in for the regular saxophone player in Louie's band whenever his regular sax player was sick.
My dad's friend only did it for a few years though.
That was when Louis played in Las Vegas at the Desert Inn hotel and set annual attendence records.

Usually music is one of those things that we can all agree on.
But, some people here are not in a very agreeable mood.
So, I appreciate the effort, just the same.

Along those same lines The Outlaws version of "Ghostriders"

I am a wildland firefighter, one of my former crews designed T-shirt around the lyrics we had them printed on the shirts.

"Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred, their shirts all soaked with sweat
They're ridin' hard to catch that herd but they 'aint caught 'em yet
'Cause they've got to ride forever in the range up in the sky
On horses snorting fire as they ride hard, hear them cry."

"All I can do is write about it"

Is an anthem.

From "Jacksonville Kid" another Skynard tune

"Jacksonville, I love you
but you don't want me around

Jacksonville, I love you
And it's where I got my sound

Although I'm your outlaw
I still love my hometown"
