Why does Iraq look like an oasis in the middle of a desert & what do the skeleton legs represent ?

...it ate use down to the bone while we were in it. Walking out, the top half declares victory but the bottom half shows the toll taken.

Lol I mistook the swamp for an oasis and I didn't notice the crocodile eyes.
