I think we're losing our ability to be outraged

Slowly, year by year, the Republican Party continues it's disgusting, ugly march into the past.

What can they possibly come up with next? Segregated lunch counters? Blacks to the back of the bus? Lychings?

These horrible relics of Jim Crow may sound like they're unlikely to be repeated. But can we be sure? The GOP and many of their followers would welcome back this era in a heartbeat.

The issues in this post may sound erratic and perhaps impossible. Yet, who could have or would have anticipated a Fox "News," hate radio, and one of our major political parties thriving on total divisiveness, unmitigated greed, and outright hatred.

If some of the more horrible things I've mentioned here come to be, we would have no one to blame but ourselves. We (Democrats, the Democratic Party, sane Independents) have been using stones and spears to fight the GOP's "nuclear" arsenal of hate.

We should have been fighting them tooth and nail every step of the way. And I hope it's not too late.

The GOP is working on establishing religious, cultural, economic and political apartheid. We will be South Africa on steroids. Look at everything they are doing.

the GOP's agenda to keep women pregnant, barefoot and out of the voting booth.

I don't know if this is what you're referring to, but it's definitely on the GOP "To Do" list.

over the contraception issue. Where are the REPUBLICAN female members of Congress at these meetings and speaking out on their outrageon contraception coverage? SILENCE. On THIS issue, the majority of women are united. On this issue, it will BACKFIRE on the Republicans.

I'm male, but I share your anger. Keep that fire burning. And perhaps we can make the Republican Party a dim, despised memory.

How exactly do you fight "a nuclear arsenal of hate"?

I'm for secession. Two countries. Let them live how they want and let us live how we want.

I don't think we liberals can ever really unite with crazy haters. Too different.

14. The haters have always been there. However,

they ended up with big money behind them, and with ownership of virtually the entire media.

That's why their messages get out and ours do not.

But regarding the question of "How do we fight them?" I wish I had the answer.

Nonetheless, understanding the problem has always been the first step in finding a solution. Let's just hope it's not too late.

and they fight dirty, very dirty...and they use all kinds of ill-gotten gains to fund their agenda.

We honest, fair fighters are not meeting them on a level playing field.

Aside for being smited from above, I don't know what will stop them...

Nation’s Liberals Suffering From Outrage Fatigue
http://www.theonion.com/articles/nations-liberals-suffering-from-outrage-fatigue,1190/

excerpt:

WASHINGTON, DC—According to a study released Monday by the Hammond Political Research Group, many of the nation's liberals are suffering from a vastly diminished sense of outrage.

"With so many right-wing shams to choose from, it's simply too daunting for the average, left-leaning citizen to maintain a sense of anger," said Rachel Neas, the study's director. "By our estimation, roughly 70 percent of liberals are experiencing some degree of lethargy resulting from a glut of civil-liberties abuses, education funding cuts, and exorbitant military expenditures."

"For a while, I wanted more fuel for the fire, to really get my blood boiling," said Madison, WI resident Dorothy Levine, a reproductive-rights activist and former Howard Dean campaign volunteer. "I read the policy papers on the Brookings web site. I subscribed to The Progressive. I clipped cartoons by Tom Tomorrow and Ted Rall. I listened to NPR all day. But then, it was like, while I was reading Molly Ivins' Bushwhacked, eight more must-read anti-Bush books came out. It was overwhelming. By the time they released Fahrenheit 9/11, I was too exhausted to drag myself to the theater."

"It used to be that I would turn on Pacifica Radio and be incensed at the top of every hour," Levine added. "Now, I could find out that Bush plans to execute every 10th citizen and I'd barely blink an eye, much less raise a finger." Of the liberals afflicted with fatigue, many said they are still haunted by the specters of their former outrage.

Some things are simply not going to happen. Women aren't going to meekly accept this crap. It's simply not going to happen. And the more men come forth to testify against women, the more outraged we'll be.
