executed a man by pumping five .45 cal slugs into his chest.
Why am I mentioning this? Because I've seen hundreds of the "skittles and iced tea" reference as if to convey some air of innocence and normalcy about Trayvon Martin. It is a false association... please don't try to evoke sympathy for someone by pointing out normal, every day activity that anyone would engage in as some kind of evidence of innocence.
Z may or may not be guilty of murder and I hope the truth comes out... then let the chips fall etc. I am not rooting for a conviction or exoneration... I'm rooting for the truth of what happened that night to come to light and that justice is served accordingly.
Perhaps the oddest detail of the case, though, is that one of the key pieces of evidence, it seems, is a piece of blue cotton candy Bubblicious bubble gum. Prosecutors said in court today they can prove Hendandez purchased that gum at a gas station hours before the murder. Who cares about gum? you may be asking yourself right now.

(8,492 posts)The gum is evidence. Zimmerman claimed Trayvon was 'carrying something'. He was; a cell phone, a bag of Skittles and a can of iced tea.
He didn't kill someone and leave the Skittles wrapper in the rental car, nor offer a witness a piece of cotton candy flavored Skittles.

(23,720 posts)The victim was not armed as GZ implied, All he had in his hands were Arazona flavored drink and a bag of skittles. That's why it is brought up.
"The call that Zimmerman made to a non-emergency dispatcher just after 7 p.m. on the night in question was played repeatedly for jurors, who listened intently and took notes.
On the call, Zimmerman reports that Martin is walking around in the rain and looks like hes up to no good, then says the teen is staring at him and approaching with his hand in his waistband.
After Zimmerman reports that Martin has started to run away, dispatcher Sean Noffke, hearing the sound of movement and wind, asks if he is following. When Zimmerman says he is, Noffke tells him, You dont need to do that.
Under questioning Monday, Noffke said he didnt order Zimmerman to stay put because dispatchers are only supposed to make suggestions for liability reasons."

(4,795 posts)It wasn't illegal. He wasn't a perp, as he was identified by Zimmerman. He wasn't armed or carrying stolen goods. He was minding his own business, engaging in legal activities. There was no reason for him to be profiled.
Likewise, there was nothing especially peculiar about a gum purchase, except that blue cotton candy flavor is most often a favorite of serial killers according to peer reviewed journaled studies

(60,212 posts)He was a normal kid who got into normal trouble.
At the time he was shot, however, he wasn't doing anything. He wasn't out to cause trouble, he was just walking down the street and minding his own business.
The iced tea and skittles establish that he was a kid on a perfectly normal, law-abiding outing when he was chased down and shot like a dog.

(6,907 posts)when people bring up that he went to the store to buy skittles, it is usually in response to the "why was he in that gated neighborhood in the first place?" question. He was there because his Dad lived there, and he was out because he went to the store and bought some skittles. That's why it is brought up. And frankly the whole "why was he in that gated neighborhood?" question is racist bullshit to begin with.
