20 years ago I would not have believed a poll like this, but in today's world who knows. I'm still leaning it's BS.

(30,439 posts)1) They're comparing a sitting President to an inebriated President sitting in his Texas ranch, drinking away.
2) Bush's approval reached the low twenties at one point. Obama has never been nearly that low.
3) Gallup is a joke of a polling organization with proven Republican bias as they picked Romney to beat Obama.

I'm having a hard time finding a sentence in Gallup implying that this is a fair comparison.

Reminds me of something I ran across today:
Bush, aides made 935 false statements in run-up to war

This is when he had a high approval rating....so not sure what having a high rating means....

(11,464 posts)this of course, proves that the smears were dirty tricks.
but then we all already knew that, and each and every one was debunked.
Of course, all those polls said Mitt won, didn't they?

(68,868 posts)Bush was favorable/unfavorable, Obama was job approval.
Favorable number is always higher than job approval--plenty of people like Obama personally without thinking he's doing a good job.

(19,348 posts)Gallup once against pushes the propaganda. Favorable rating does NOT equal approval rating.

(208 posts)In my first post above, I criticized Gallup as I had not read the Gallup story.
If you go to the Gallup website and read the article, you will see that the OP (welcome to DU, by the way) did a much worse job than Gallup did. Gallup observed very early in the piece that Americans are very kind to ex-presidents
My conclusion is that the Gallup piece was good and this thread is terrible.
Please do not take my criticism as a hint that the OP is a troll, because he is not.

(116,464 posts)...not the same as job approval ratings. And if you didn't know, Gallup leans right.
by Noah Rothman
The news that former President George W. Bushs poll numbers have improved dramatically since he left office in 2009 was greeted by conservatives on Tuesday with a mixture of vindication and glee. According to Gallup, by 49 to 46 percent, Bushs favorability rating had exceeded his unfavorability rating for the first time since 2005. Some conservative news organizations even made the claim that Bush had even surpassed President Barack Obama in popularity. Sadly for conservatives, this is not the case.
Americans views of former president George W. Bush have improved, with 49% now viewing him favorably and 46% unfavorably. That is the first time since 2005 that opinions of him have been more positive than negative, the Gallup release read.
Conservative sites like Breitbart and Drudge Report ran with the news that Bush more popular than Obama
<...>
It is important to test Gallup results against Gallup results to ensure the polls are methodologically consistent. Gallup does not test the presidents favorably rating regularly, but the last time they did (April 11 14, 2013) they found Obama with a 55 to 43 percent personal favorability rating. That was down only slightly from the last time they tested it right after the presidents reelection in November, 2012, when Obama received a 58 to 40 percent favorability rating.

(208 posts)Which casts doubt on your statement.
Unless you are talking about the fact that Obama was hugely popular during the first few days of his Presidents, which usually happens to everyone.
