General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAll you liberals that are crying about the misdeeds of IRS....
should open your eyes. You cannot be that stupid.
The Republicans would like nothing better than a flat tax for their wealthy friends and we all suffer when that happens. Either you pay more in taxes to make up the difference or you get less from your government?
I would suggest we be careful in criticizing the IRS, lest we push the Republican agenda over the line. Do not be a puppet of the right-wing.

(11,464 posts)a sleight of hand would be to say something wrong was done, but nothing wrong was done.
After all, for instance, why is the NRA and other tax free things tax free?
They all should be taxed.
So, saying liberals are crying, I don't know anyone crying about this, as there is way too many things saying tax free
that should be taxed.

(19,877 posts)They have no momentum or movement. People are running from the Republican party. Especially the next generation of voters. They desperately want a flat-tax and to abolish the IRS.

(9,933 posts)I pointed out the other day that piling on the IRS was buying into tea party rhetoric and someone named Cali butted into the conversation (when I wasn't talking to them) and told me to shove such observations up my ass. So be careful! Some tea party rhetoric is endorsed by DUers.

(5,937 posts)The apology that seemingly came out of nowhere that sparked all this off is not a great way to say hey "we are doing our jobs just fine, and we just wanted you all to know that". Plus, they are still giving testimony and there is talk of immunity for Lois Lerner now to try to get her to talk. I don't know what they did, not believing they did anything wrong just because the repubs and media say they have but they need to start acting less guilty of something right? The president even wanted the public to know he would make getting to the bottom of this a priority if wrong doing was found almost immediately after the first apology became public.

(22,651 posts)An 'apology' is in every letter I have from the IRS, when they ask 'questions'.
I think republicans try to stifle the federal/state gov, including the IRS to shield their tax free political charities, especially the huge republican run, 'public service' 'charities'.

(39,909 posts)Tell President Obama.
I think the IRS needs to be much more thorough "questioning" ANYONE who applies for Tax Exempt status....churches, charities, 501-*, all of them.
I cringed when our President apologized for the IRS asking tough questions to scam 501s applying for Tax Exempt status.
THAT is exactly WHAT the IRS is SUPPOSED to do.

(64 posts)I so agree with you on this one. All this crying and whining about folks who were only DOING their jobs ! OMG. You would swear these people were Blair witch-hunting like they were the long lost children of Daryl Issa. But as a Tax Payer , who doesn't wanna SUBSIDIZE any group that ISN'T doing social welfare [Repubs or Dems]..... I give KUDOS to the IRS. And support them 100%
