(62,683 posts)I'd imagine it's pretty easy to disappear in a city like Boston.

(29,503 posts)the suspects in question are likely to be well-hidden somewhere planned in advance. So it will likely take some time, but they will be caught.

(2,347 posts)Enough time for someone to id one of them, and then some time to track them down. A little time for the usual bureaucracy. Just a little, since this is a big case.

(175 posts)The amount of attention that is about to be put on these two is what inspired the poll. The only possible outcomes are:
1. apprehension
2. death
3. escape
Outcome 3 does not seem realistic.

(21,925 posts)There must be tons of other shots of these guys from private phones and cameras and store security cameras showing them after the ones we've now seen.

Once they have the first, it will be relatively easy to identify the second suspect.

(62,683 posts)My sense is that they're just bored asshole kids, no political agenda, no organization ties, who thought they could get away with this.

(13,431 posts)It's been three days. I suspect the FBI has reviewed airport and Amtrak camera footage for Boston, New Haven and NYC and have come up empty so they are reaching out to the public. I think these guys are long gone and we're already looking at a cold case. I sure hope I'm wrong, though.

(2,347 posts)at or under the speed limit, with all systems working, license plates properly placed, all that stuff. Not going to repeat McVeigh's mistake.
This is a domestic terrorism case, 90% certain of that. They're not out of the country, unless they went to Canada.

(46,436 posts)The smart thing for them to do would be to turn themselves in (quietly) and tell their story.

(2,347 posts)Watching Bloomberg, and Falkenrath, who has been excellent so far, made the point that as young as they appear to be, there must be a support network behind them. Given this was done at around the anniversary of both Waco and McVeigh, on Patriots Day, in Boston, on tax day, and the ATF is active in the investigation and was right from the start (they have no jurisdiction in foreign sourced bombs) likely domestic. That means the support network is domestic.
The FBI knows all of this, and you can be sure they're working the domestic militia movements and their fellow travelers hard.

(2,347 posts)Far far more likely they were part of a domestic network who went to Boston specifically because it was Patriots Day there. Lexington and Concord.
90% on that. 10% on something else. Nothing is of course certain at this point; the timing, the age of these guys, where they chose to attack, point to domestic and far right. The bomb type points more to the Middle East, so I'd allocate 9 of the remaining 10% to that possibility. 1% other, which would be your scenario. In my opinion, not high probability.
FarCenter
(19,429 posts)I was just using Boston as an example, but there are plenty of people in this age group with the ability to make these bombs.
Testing would be easier in other parts of the country, since a bang would be less noticable if you set one off under some sand in a gravel pit in a rural area.
If from another state, they probably traveled by car, paid cash for gas, etc. The certainly look like they could be domestic, but they could also be Middle Eastern or North African. White hat has fairly light skin, a big nose, and curly hair.

Animal Chin
(175 posts)and from news reports, it sounds like "between 12 and 18" will be the winner for Suspect 2.
Thanks for playing, and yes, I am an idiot (not pretending )

(19,841 posts)...correct for suspect number one anyway...
I also guessed they were brothers from the video.
I also guessed their region of origin.
But never guessed they have been in the US for ten years.
And I didn't want to guess they were Islamists, for obvious reasons.
I don't think it hurts to speculate. That's what everyone does. You want to make some sense out of the senseless. Normal reaction.

(175 posts)This is the top news story in the world right now.
Why is it wrong to speculate on how long until it ends?
marions ghost
(19,841 posts)in fact it helps people imagine it to be over. Which is what we all want.
