anything from happening
Forget about compromise with this Congress. Start pushing a progressive agenda.

(7,099 posts)They're going to be intransigent anyway; no reason to give them a laugh by caving to get their cooperation.

(62,325 posts)and he needs to call those four Democrats to let them know what is expected of them in the future otherwise he will campaign against them in their next primaries.
Let's play some hardball for a change.
He could start by sending out a clear message that he will never sign any bill that includes permission for the Tar Sands Pipeline.
He should announce he is taking back his offer of cuts to SS.
I think whatever lesson he was trying to teach the public about how obstructive they are has been learned now.
He should raise SS benefits which would stimulate the economy and cost the federal government nothing.
He should act as if they do not exist and relegate them to the trashbin of politics.
He and Reid and Nancy Pelosi need to start meeting with any Democrat who has or intends or might vote against any of his progressive legislation and lay it on the line. They will not have the party's support in their next election if they vote Republican, period.
We have the most popular issues. We do not need to compromise with Republicans.
What good is it to have won the Senate when something like this comes and four Dems vote with Republicans? Shame on them.

(22,541 posts)are you "hoping" he's getting the message? I certainly won't send this thread along to him as an example of any sort of support for his attempt to get gun control legislation done. Seems to me it's a celebration of hate for him and rubbing his nose in it. Nice. Real nice. I don't think those Sandy Hook parents would think your priorities are in the right order, either.

(2,770 posts)I sincerely doubt that this is late-breaking news to Obama.
Always amazes me when people think that Obama got where he is by being too stupid to understand that the Republicans are not his friends.
And yet everyone always hopes he finally "got the message".

As I said, always amazes me that people think he's either. But some people persist in thinking that they know something he doesn't know.

(22,541 posts)loud and clear "for his own good". With their own swipes about his intelligence or maturity or naiveté. He being so woefully inept at everything he has ever done and they being so superior and accomplished. Natch.
