(70,581 posts)When I was a little kid our next door neighbor's brother in a very middle class
neighborhood was the Governor of PA ..... he played ball w/the kids and was a
nice guy ..... later I looked up his record and he was for civil rights, unions,
schools, infrastructure, and the environment sadly he would have no home in
republican party today.
These people are freaks and know they have to cheat to win.

(4,764 posts)I worked on his first campaign for senate when I was in college. It is hard to believe that at onetime there were Republicans like Chuck Percy.

(10,942 posts)for anyone with an R beside their names. Republicans that win public office turn around and behave like Nazis, trying to neutralize all possible opposition from their position of power. Republican leaders and the faithful mouth breathers that one encounters on blogs call anyone that they disagree with nazis, yet in their every action, they show what fascism is.

(2,436 posts)When she was an undergrad at Stanford, there was a court ruling which allowed students to inspect their school files.
Not copy them, but view them in place.
She always suspected that she had just barely, marginally, been granted admission to the School.
And when she was given the opportunity to inspect her file, which she did, her suspicions were thoroughly confirmed.

(3,041 posts)I would much prefer common sense. Any rich person can get a college degree.

(2,515 posts)Progressive watching progressive preach. There are other angles from which people approach life. In this case, my opinion, the wrong way, but it is different.
The same bubble exists on the other side but to a greater degree.
The bubble is smaller, tighter.

(24,461 posts)The three you mentioned have Frank Luntz/Lee Atwater/Karl Rove cue card mythology that 47% of the public buys because bumper stickers and factoids don't require deep thought.

(7,515 posts)So you can imagine what they have to say about the 'welfare' state! How do you not believe in charitable giving? It boggles my mind. One votes republican the other libertarian. They hate homeless people...as though the homeless choose to be that way! They are selfish, amoral, sociopaths....

(21,046 posts)I wish I didn't have personal experience with this.
My ex-husband tried to nag me to death. He nagged me into a physical collapse in only four years.
My immune system was destroyed. The people at the hospital didn't understand how I could be sick from non-pathogenic flora.
I came down with severe bacterial pneumonia and bronchitis. This went on for many years. My doctor had to vacuum my lungs out four times in five years, so I would not drown in my own pus (sorry to be so gross) and die. I was in and out of the hospital and ER and doctor's office with uncontrollable vomiting from sinus infections and dehydration for about eight nine years.
And this jerk had the gall to accuse me of faking it and bribing my doctor to put me in the hospital. On HIS insurance because it "embarrassed him at work".
To sociopaths, illness is a moral failure.
He called me "lazy" and sat in the far corner of the hospital room a couple hours after I'd had our baby and major abdominal surgery with a C-section, which he witnessed, because I was flat on my back for two days with a urinary catheter in me. And I'd had
spinal anesthetic so I couldn't have gotten up anyway.
