Email from Elizabeth Warren: "Big announcement"

Text:

===

Here's what I believe --

Americans are fighters. We are tough, resourceful, and creative.

If we have the chance to fight on a level playing field -- where everyone pays a fair share and everyone has a real shot -- then no one can stop us.

That's what I'm fighting for each and every day in the United States Senate. But here's the honest truth: at the end of the day, my one voice -- and my one vote -- isn't enough. We need many strong voices fighting together to stand up for what we believe in.

I've formed a new organization -- PAC for a Level Playing Field -- to advance our fight. Together we can do more, and we can support candidates across the country who believe in consistent accountability, investing in opportunity, and fighting for families and small businesses.

Just like our campaign, the PAC for a Level Playing Field won't be funded by big corporate interests. It will be funded by grassroots donors like you.

Will you join me as a founding member of the PAC for a Level Playing Field?

In 2012, you took on the big banks and the powerful interests -- and you taught a scrappy first-time candidate how to get in the ring and win.

Your $5 and $10 donations powered us with more small-dollar funding than any other Senate campaign in the history of the United States. And with your hard work, we knocked on more doors and made our case to more voters one-on-one than any campaign in the history of Massachusetts.

Using our historic fundraising efforts and the single best grassroots army that any Senate campaign has ever seen, the PAC for a Level Playing Field will fight for what we believe in and help candidates who will join us in that fight.

Can I count on you to become a founding member? Join the PAC for a Level Playing Field now.

I know how many of you have put your faith in my ability to fight for you -- and I'll never forget it. Now let's work together to level the playing field.

Thank you for being a part of this,

Elizabeth

I think Elizabeth Warren is the best thing to come along since Bernie Sanders. So why do we need yet another PAC w/ the same goals as say...DFA? There is a finite amount of money available to us. We are not deep pockets. Can't these PACs look first before yet another one is formed? What am I missing?

Fri Feb 22, 2013, 02:17 PM
Feb 2013

like the historic protests in Wisconsin that got channeled into a recall, and the best the Democrats could do was rerun their lame candidate that Scott Walker had already beaten.

Or the Clinton Justice Department not prosecuting Iran Contra & October Surprise crimes and as a thank you, getting ten years of the GOP talking about his dick and trying to impeach him.

And the pass Democrats gave Baby Bush once they regained control of the House and Senate certainly wasn't repaid with collegiality by the Republicans once Obama got into office.

The only explanation for all the times they've refused an easy homerun is they aren't on our team: they see Republicans as the favored fellow dog of the same Wall Street and corporate masters, and Dems they know they can't win the master's favor by leaving the gate open so the favorite runs out into the street and gets run over.

In short, we are bystanders, not the target audience.

Most of us are at least a little bit more responsive to giving support directly to someone who we respect greatly when asked to by that person. A display of loyalty toward someone who has been there for you when it mattered is almost hard wired in most people. Warren is the type of person who can pull in a little more money than would have been donated to her political causes otherwise if she wasn't asking for it personally. It's a good move all the way around.

NEVER to the DNC, DCCC, etc. Those are too right-wing for me and support a whole lot of candidates I don't want to support or elect.

Elizabeth Warren is one of an incredibly rare number of people (like I could count the number on fewer fingers than I have on one hand) I trust to spend the money and support candidates who I'd support. If I find a large number I don't agree with, I'll stop my monthly donations to her PAC. But I have enough faith in her that I think she'll pick the best candidates for my support to go to.

So......I set up small monthly payments for a year! I'll still be able to make small donations to individual candidates, but I view funding her PAC as a smart way to fund the best candidates.

I too have given up on giving to the DNC, DSCC, etc. when I realized that they'll funnel my money to the likes of Ben Nelson and his ilk. This past cycle, I targeted my donations to Elizabeth Warren, Alan Grayson, and Barack Obama. It was money well spent! I'll be participating in Senator Warren's (sounds good to say it) PAC!

Feb 2013

Look, I like her. I'll probably donate a big check to this thing. I donated to her first campaign. But make no mistake what this really is. This is a "re-elect Warren" PAC. PAC's can do things than campaigns can't. I'd be surprised if every single senator doesn't have a PAC. It is how the game is played and she's gonna play.

I wouldn't want people on my team NOT knowing how to play the game! Best defense is a good offense.

It's a frikken godsend that someone who shares our human values and has shown so far that she is trustworthy and unafraid ALSO knows how to play the game and is gonna PLAY. In this case, playing the game not a bad thing. (Although, it's not *play* and it's not a *game* I also think that often, when people are flipping out about PO looking like he's betraying our values, it's an artifact of having to play the game.

(This isn't meant to blast you, zipplewraith, by the way.... I just got fired up. )

we already have organizations like Progressive Change Campaign Committee to do this. I dont want us to get too fragmented with our donations.

Secondly, it is important to note that she wants to do this outside the Democratic Party. IMO if you give to the DNC or other Democratic organization, they might give your money to a Blue Dog and let a progressive swing in the wind. Seems she might agree.

Are they going to try to "primary" Blue Dogs?

42. A successful PAC gives you clout in the Senate.
Fri Feb 22, 2013, 03:49 AM
Feb 2013

Clout means you get prized committee appointments, your colleagues listen to you/cooperate with you, and you're considered by everyone to be a mover/shaker, and not a back-bencher. If you call a press conference, people show up.

Nancy Pelosi is the best fundraiser in the Democratic Party, even better than Barack Obama I believe. Ever wonder how she got to hold the Speaker's gavel? (I love Nancy Pelosi BTW, and consider fundraising part of the process, even if the process is currently distorted and needs adjustments). Ever wonder why Chuck Schumer is always on TV as a spokesman for Democrats? He is a huge fundraising machine, so he has clout inside the party.

With Elizabeth Warren's PAC she can build up a war chest for her reelection, she can shift funds to favored colleagues who need help getting reelected, and cultivate new talent. She can marshall people together and hold sway. It gives her leverage in Congress, in other words, political power. (Does this sound icky? Because this part and parcel of how our government process works).

I will definitely send Senator Warren's PAC some money, because I love her! I try to support specific candidates or liberal organizations now, rather than sending my money to the DCCC or DSCC... The Blue Dogs and big establishment groups like DSCC can cultivate the big spenders, they don't need my help. Consider it 'voting with your dollars' -- it really does matter a lot. We want Senator Warren to have clout!
