If the hidden subsidies built into the tax code were exposed as actual government spending, there would be a revolt from teabaggers united with centrists and lefty progs.

Tax giveaways are a form of subsidy and there are many good reasons for many of them, but they really are a form of spending because it is income that the government(s) forego, that they choose not to collect. Other taxes are higher because of the tax breaks.

The greatest tax simplification would be to turn tax breaks into budget line item subsidies.

But the pretend-stupid party (GOP) that pretends to cater to the stupids while really shafting them will never agree to such a common sense approach.

If you are ignorant and don't have the ability to reason, you are insane. And it's just downright evil for politician's to lie and take advantage of their electorate. Republican politicians should be doing everything they can to get those people educated, and to make sure they get the mental health services that they so desperately need.

I really have never seen any logic in their thinking, and worst of all, as bad as their politicians are, the people who vote for them are ten times worse. They are like the anti-party, everything they represent goes against the grain of any sane political thought.

Let's see, they campaign for 1) lower minimum wage, 2) lower taxes on the rich, higher on the rest of us, 3) less environmental protection, 4) continued dependency on oil, 5) less rights for anyone in a minority... I mean the list goes on and on. It would be unbelievable to me if they continue to exist without a major change in their attitude.
