I know they all want to scoop each other, but giving out information that could be useful to the criminal is lunacy..

He's calling it an only in LA story. That's over sixty miles from LA. Big Bear is about seventy miles. It's not even in the same county as LA. If they are going to report live stories could they please just get the details that are verifiable right? It makes all their reporting suspect if they don't get it right.

a lot of places, and a lot of eccentrics living out there. The main point though is that there are a lot of roads in the desert. In the mountains, there is limited access and places to exit so it's easier for the police to set up bottle necks and road blocks something that would be very hard to do in the desert.

Also, the desert cools way down at night, especially in winter (at least it does in every other desert I've ever heard of). A 250 pound biped will glow like a torch with thermal cameras out there.

the mountains. Didn't you see the snow up in Big Bear? Also, if you every watched a Western, most of them were filmed in the Mojave. Remember all those canyons and ravines that the outlaws hid out in? I personally would just head to Palmdale though. There was a hugh mortgage crisis and a lot of abandoned track homes, neighborhoods full of them and close to places to shop or burglarize depending on whether he has money. A really stealthy person could live there for years.

I decided to go off the rails. I am an outdoorsy type who goes out into the wood for weeks at a time or used when I was younger. Those are not the mountains I would hide in if I wanted to hide in mountains. Also, there are campsites in the desert and in the Sierras that hardly anybody goes to because the facilities might not be wonderful or there are too many mosquitos, stuff like that. He could camp close to one of them, because usually there is water if not anything else, and he probably would not see anyone for weeks especially in the winter.

he had done a home invasion and had a couple tied up. one got away today and called the police (that's when the initial gunfight with the fish and game official happened.) then he stole their truck and the truck is the one they keep showing stuck in the gully and then he broke into this cabin he is currently in.

thats my understanding - in a nutshell.

Feb 2013

For those that are not familiar with the San Bernardino Mountains, Crestline is the first town you come to coming up the hill from San Bernardino. Even though we have two towns between us (Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear), we are taking precautions - doors locked, garage closed, etc. It is a different atmosphere than I have even seen up here. People are very nervous. It doesn't surprise me or my wife that Doner would end up in the mountains. It is the perfect hiding place....empty vacation cabins, remote....

We are hunkered down until this passes.

1)Tactical teams tore off the front of the building with heavy equipment. The suspect was seen inside.

2)Green smoke then began emitting from cabin, probably smoke or diversion device set by the suspect.

3)Tactical teams fired in device and a fire started shortly thereafter. Not saying that was the cause.

4)Just after fire started, one shot was heard from INSIDE the location.

5)Location, which includes a basement, burned to the ground. They waited until structure collapsed into basement.
