If you think the Dem party has changed you are not alone.

Republicans from decades ago have bemoaned bad influence on their party.

Quote: On religious issues there can be little or no compromise. There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being. But like any powerful weapon, the use of God's name on one's behalf should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom. They are trying to force government leaders into following their position 100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups on a particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of money or votes or both.
I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in "A," "B," "C" and "D." Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me?
And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of "conservatism." --- Barry Goldwater

Whoa ...looks like the repukes have changed quite a bit since then. I suppose it shouldn't be any surprise if Dems have changed too. What matters to me is the truth ...about anyone in office whether Dem or repuke. I think we as Dems should not fall into hypocrisy over any sort of party lock step and should keep anyone who aspires to govern over us feet to the fire lest indeed we get fooled again. Sure it's better that we have a Dem but I don't think that insures that we won't get sold out. I am sure that at this point in time if there were to be another repuke as president that we will would most certainly see the USS Titanic sink with no one but the 1% surviving well and the rest of us more quickly devolving into the serfdom of minimum wage and multiple part time jobs ...and of course much much more homelessness.

As another example is from the Ken Burns PBS movie on prohibition when it was the Dems who were the religious zealots pushing the anti booze agenda and the repukes fighting against it.

I guess my point is that neither side always has it right and we should always be open to look at the truth about either and hold them all accountable. It's suppose to be our government ...not the sociopaths. My bottom line is that if you don't speak the truth then I don't trust you. If you don't care about people then I don't trust you. If you are part of the 1% then I don't trust you because I believe the "love" of money is the root of all evil. IMO greed is destroying our country.

It's up to you to hold everyones feet to the fire or you can follow blindly ...which is much easier. If we as Dems follow blindly then are we any different than the repukes we are against? Sure I am going to vote Dem in all cases but that doesn't mean I am going believe that everything that Dem does is right and good for me.

Cheers

in the South in the 1960's who were racists. True...but those Democrats are now comfortably at home in today's Republican Party. Parties do change over time and what they may collectively believe today may be totally at odds with their beliefs of 20-30 years earlier. (A good example is the republican party platform on 1956. It reads like a mainstream Democratic platform document today.) So, yeah, if today's Democratic party morph's into today's Republican Party...I'll find a new home.

It's a constant struggle to push the agenda leftward. I think we are starting to see the start of a backlash against the RW agenda that's been largely in control for decades, though. My only point is I'm not wedded to the Democratic Party...like any relationship, I don't expect to get my way 100% of the time. If our objectives reasonably coalesce, I'm in the fold. If our objectives diverge with minimal common ground, I'm looking for a new place to live.

gotten rid of all of them and keep the extreme right. Until republicans start voting back the mix back in they will lose elections.
