most of the public art featured nude statues. Many homes had "graphic" sex art on the walls. Many homes also had a picture of the god of sexuality with a phallus on the door. Some showed all the anatomy and some was outright pornographic. Roman theater even featured sexual activity on stage.
I was recently at the Getty Sculpture museum near Santa Monica. There was one statue that showed ALL the anatomy. Most of the statuary was not clothed. We are a prudish society about as sick as the Puritans.

(14,549 posts)the eyes were painted to be life-like and they had tunics and togas but today in the age of "naked = art" clothing seems pretty silly on statues:

He banned his daughter from the empire for her indiscretions. He also banned Ovid because of his writings. Ovid's openness about sexuality offended Caesar. Ovid died on some distant island in exile.
