Before Calling 911, Sheriff Tells Residents To Get ‘In The Game’ With A Gun

http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2013/01/27/1500491/sheriff-gunspolice-911/

Cop is basically saying because of lay-offs we don't have the man power so it is your duty to protect you and yours.

HOWEVER he doesn't say in the article that even if you are following his suggestion IF you shot and kill someone innocence than he'll be more than happy to see you get a nice comfy small room to live in for life.

14. Here's a link from 2011 -- 15 minutes!

http://www.jsonline.com/watchdog/watchdogreports/127077973.html

Once dispatched, the time it took squads to arrive at the highest priority calls - such as shootings or armed robberies in progress - got slower by a minute and a half over that time, records show. It took police an average of almost 14 minutes to arrive at those calls last year.

http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/shots-ring-out-but-why-bother-calling-police-132115243.html

In one example found by the newspaper, Milwaukee police took more than 45 minutes to get to a fatal stabbing in Riverwest in July, even though it was considered a top priority call and the caller admitted that she stabbed her boyfriend.

In another case, police took more than two hours to arrive at the scene of a fatal car crash in June on the far northwest side.

52. Don't need to

But here it is for your benefit:

vig·i·lan·te/ˌvɪdʒəˈlænti/ Show Spelled
noun
1. a member of a vigilance committee.
2. any person who takes the law into his or her own hands, as by avenging a crime.

Protecting oneself or others from imminent harm is not taking the law into your own hands, it's exercising the natural right of defense.

I know definitions and stuff are just "distractions" to some anti-2A people, but if one expects to be taken seriously in a discussion it helps to know that words mean things.

58. Defending oneself is not "law enforcement" except in an incidental way

It is a natural right, and natural rights are not contingent upon law. Even they were, your own definition, "without legal authority" negates your argument, since people do have the legal authority to defend themselves.

65. There's a spud in your future....

Gandhi said it was ones duty to defend oneself, family and property, without harming the thug if possible (ahimsa), or by violent means if you don't "follow" ahimsa. Two honorable choices. But there is a third choice: to do nothing. He termed this type of vulgar pacifism "cowardice."

I hope you don't take that third option.

"A vigilante is an individual or group who undertakes law enforcement without legal authority."

I replied:

"In which jurisdition do people not have legal authority to defend themselves, and earn the label "vigilante" in doing so?"

Your words, your definitions.

94. Neither of those men acted in self defense. They're murderers.

Sure, they tried to argue otherwise and lie. But neither was defending in the classic sense. Zimmerman was the attacker, not the defender.

Reading this sub thread, you seemed to imply (multiple times) that someone fighting their attacker was a vigilante. People defend themselves from direct attack with many weapons, of which guns is one. Store clerks, as a subset, have used guns, brooms, cans, hostess cakes (throwing them and distracting robber), and fists to defend against violent attackers. If someone breaks into a home and attacks a family, they are justified to use whatever is at hand to defend themselves.

And that is on people's minds here in CT - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheshire,_Connecticut,_home_invasion_murders

Cops do not need to arrive on scene to more weapons being brandished and have to try to work out who is the good guy and who is not. If you think that Clarke's call for people to 'get in the game' will not result in MORE cases like Trayvon and Bo, I think you're wrong.

If you support sheriffs in and around your county making these statements, whatever. This is my neighboring county and where people I love live and work. And David Clarke is a grandstanding, liberal-bashing asshole with extreme visions of grandeur. This is not the first idiotic thing to fall out of his stupid piehole. He has a long history of being a teabggaing fuckface.

3. It is ALWAYS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to protect yourself, family and property.

I doubt an attacker will compliantly pause while you call 911 and wait until they arrive.

We all have a right and a responsibility to protect ourselves, our families, and our property.

I agree with this sheriff.

Yup, I have them all bookmarked.

Apparently his earlier press shot, "Sheriff Clarke attributes increase in burglaries/robberies in north side neighborhoods to failed soft-on-crime social engineering experiments by the Milwaukee County Criminal Justice System" didn't work out.

If so, maybe a dramatic reduction in that department and addition of some first responders..Maybe don't fund the imprisonment of non-violent victimless criminals and use that money for first responders...priorities are often the answer to these issues..that said, a 14 minute average response time for the highest priority calls is unacceptable..

LEO's can't teleport to my house in the best of times, so I keep
HD weapons handy to protect my family until they show up.

Same reason I keep a fire extinguisher in the house, too.

Is it likely I'll need either? No, but I'm NOT taking chances;
all it takes is ONE time to REALLY need them.

It's just common sense, especially in these trying times.

In that order.

Else if, stay in the barricaded room with gun ready and 911 on the phone.

115. David Clarke is a Tea-bagging Clown..

Clarke is in a semi-permanent feud with the Milwaukee County Board, and he's taken to making increasingly outrageous statement to the media (he's also something of a media whore).

Clarke is pissed because he had to cut 42 officers. He says people are less safe because of that. Here's why David Clarke is full of shit (OK, it's really one of several reasons):

There were 106,936 violent and property crimes committed in Milwaukee County last year. Of those, all but 57 of them were handled by municipal police departments. The MKE County Sherrif responded to 0.20% of all crimes in the county. The Sherrif's Department core function are staffing the County Jail, managing the bailiff system in the County Courts, and pulling over speeders on the freeway system. That's it. Tell me how more guns are going to make a difference.

What a douche...
