(19,288 posts)He'll be used and mocked, for his beliefs. I like the guy, and dread having him abused for their amusement.

(36,418 posts)I wouldn't assume that Dennis can or will be bought off or made to shut-up. He's certainly nobody's stooge. I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing more from him, and it can only be a good thing that he finally gets a forum where more people will hear what he has to say.

(45,851 posts)I wonder how strong a contract Kookinich has?
A good strong one might make him more independent that Fox is really prepared to deal with, they have been epistemically closing themselves off for so long their intellectual-fu is all but nonexistent and it might not take much of a push from the inside to really shake them up.

(36,418 posts)Media has been dominated for so long by the Radical Centrists, and has suffered from intellectual poverty as a result, a real conflict of ideas might just shake things up more widely.
I don't see Kucinich pulling too many punches just to keep that job. Might be awesome to watch him mix it up with some of the smarter Rightists, and there are some.

(11,804 posts)He's not going to compromise his principles - doing so would render him useless to Fox. They want him up there as an egghead, head-in-the-clouds liberal; for him to go towards the right or the center, would render him useless to them.
He's earned a paycheck or two - I'm not his biggest fan, but I don't begrudge him the opportunity to continue fighting while getting paid.

The put on lightweights like Colmes who never stood up to Hannity.

(11,804 posts)who was also collecting a paycheck, the terms of which forbid him from engaging Hannity directly. He's kind of a sad sack on the air - his book is pretty good from what I hear.
I don't think they want Kucinich to be a forceful and effective advocate for liberalism - i think they want him because they believe that, already, he's not a very strong advocate for liberalism. I don't think they will tell him anything; they want him to keep doing what he is doing.
That said their perceptions of him are probably different than ours.

(24,347 posts)They can say that because Dennis disagrees with Obama, that must mean the entire American left does too--and you people are fools if you don't think Fox will seize on this to push a false narrative.

(11,804 posts)But, I'm saying, he's a grown man, he's put up with a lot over the years, and let him have his paycheck. Let him continue the fight however he wants to, even if it looks foolish to us. They might be using him, but, maybe from his perspective, he's going to use them too.

(4,795 posts)I've forever wondered if Dennis was simply an inadvertent tool of the machine to convince malcontents that they have a voice and a horse in a game that forever tramples on their dreams and wishes. Every good empire needs their dissidents within the system, both to fool the masses and to promote agreed upon change when it is determined to accelerate the growth of the empire itself.
The illusion of hope and change can be more cost-effective in fighting revolutionaries than bullets.

(4,795 posts)We are in no position to question his motives.
But despite both roles, the empire has and will largely continued to do what it wished. Personal intentions are not correlated to systematic effects.
In any case, I remain ambivalent. He will probably be no more effective at convincing Fox viewers of his ideas than congress people. All he will do is preach to whatever choir that needs to believe in him.

(116,464 posts)Fox News has renewed Karl Rover's contract through the 2016 election, Politico's Mike Allen reported Thursday. According to Politico, Fox will announce the deal soon.
Rove made waves on the network on Election Night, criticizing Fox for what he said was a premature call for President Obama. After the blow-up, network chief Roger Ailes reportedly sidelined Rove for a time. He has since been back on-air and has more scheduled appearances coming up.

Oooh, fair and balanced for the lunatic crowd.

(24,689 posts)Its been a strategy of theirs for quite some time. Its a shallow attempt to convince viewers how out of touch libs are. I think it only works with those who already believe that.

(146,345 posts)Fox Schmox, I say. However, I won't be seeing him there. He's just another progressive voice that won't be heard, and he has no vote in the House any longer. What will become of him? Who knows?
