1. For one thing, it would sharply reduce healthcare costs.

If sick workers don't HAVE to go to work, it's much less likely that others who share that workplace will get sick, which will also ultimately reduce the amount of time workers lose to illness.

2. The sick leave that was mentioned involve some one that is injured or has something going

on like cancer treatment, where a person will be out of work for months. It doesn't cover people having common colds of the flu, most sane companies simply allow people to call in and take allotted sick time.

3. I didn't limit or say that sick leave is only for serious health situations

a cold, flu or whatever would be included.

also, paid sick leave is NOT covered by most employers of low income workers.

and lots of regular workers don't get sick leave.

7. People in HR tend to think they are doctors, and can diagnose illnesses.

4. Pretty Lousy

When it has to be mandated by the government. Companies should be willing to offer without having to be prodded. Such is the state of America. Large co vs workers. Hell of a way to make a living.

6. Especially for women.

Some women have incapacitating menstrual cramps for 3 or 4 days per cycle.

Multiply that by 13 times a year, because 28 days is a lunar month, and that's a lot of time missed by being disabled by a normal physical function.

But our society's insistence on more and more work ignores the needs of people to eat, sleep, rest, use the bathroom, take care of children, be disabled from pregnancy, childbirth or menstrual cramps, or any other disabling illness.

There's always some asshole boss with an overactive thyroid or too much testosterone, who thinks that any person who does not have as much energy as he/she has is "lazy" and "stupid" and "a slacker". I've been there.

I've had to beg a judge for a lunch break so I could eat, when I was a court reporter, during a hearing. Damn control freaks. He finally backed down when I said "I have low blood sugar and I need to eat lunch. My doctor's name is Dr. Blank. His phone number is _________. Would you like to call him and talk to him about it??

It really pissed me off that he wouldn't believe me and I had to appeal to authority (my dr) before he would back down.

Reinforces my lifetime history of people not taking me seriously and not believing me because I'm female and highly educated (thus threatening) and short.

10. My company has no sick time

(or any paid time off)

As a result, people are constantly lugging to work and infecting everyone. 2 cubes over is constantly hacking up a storm and blowing through tissues and cold meds.

It's a great work environment.
