America Needs Geithner More Than Ever! Show Him Some Love!

As EarlG points out, now on DU's front page, Americans bailed out AIG in their time of need. What EarlG doesn't note is that we should be proud of this, mighty proud: while financial titans who mastermind epic failures in other other countries might need to sell a few of their yachts or go to prison, we Americans help our plutocrats with warehouses full of little people's money when they hit a global meltdown of their own making little rough patch. That's what makes America better than other countries.

USA! USA!

When lesser men waivered, it was Timmy Geithner who manfully sprayed torrents of little people's money at AIG and made goddamned sure their bonuses stayed whole. Not content with saving AIG bonuses, Geithner overruled the too-gracious overlords of Goldman-Sachs, Deutsche Bank, and others whose schemes had bankrupted AIG - while these most modest of overlords were happy to accept less profit from their scorched-earth schemes than AIG could pay, Geithner would not hear of it! He stepped up and insisted that they take every last cent they had scammed, paid by you little people of course because AIG didn't have the money.

Now Geithner wants to retire from spraying the little people's money at plutocrats, and that sucks. I'm pretty sure it's because that difficult woman, Elizabeth Warren, said really mean and uncalled for things to Timmy in public:

WTF? That woman's nothing but trouble.

TIMMY GEITHNER DESERVES A MEDAL, NOT MEAN WORDS. And America needs Timmy Geithner more than ever, since the big banks have grown even bigger under his watch: who else could match Geithner's expertise when the next financial collapse happens, any month now?

Please join me in beseeching Timmy to not give up! Don't let that hoity-toity Hah-vahd Massachusetts Liberal get you down! Stay in Treasury where you're needed by the Plutocrats!

Regards,

Third-Way Manny

Oops, I should be careful. Now that "election season" is over we moved into "pre-inaguration season". No criticism of the president during "pre-inaguration" season.

What I dont understand is how Sen Kerry got the nod for Secretary of State. He doesnt fit the mold.

Personally I think he is awesome!

He did well for his peers, and he will be a hard act to follow, who is going to look out for the underprivileged set upon investor class billionaires now? You do realize how delicate and in need the truly unneedy are!

That whole TALF thing that lent $1 trillion to banks against toxic assets, at nearly zero interest, no questions asked? They should have named it Freedom Funding, because it's making us safe from financial terra, it's not a backdoor bailout. Not at all. Nope.

He deserves all the accolades that we can give him.

Journalist Ron Suskind later reported that a more complicated internal negotiation had actually occurred behind the scenes in which Obama agreed with Romer and others that a fundamental restructuring of the banks was necessary, beginning with Citigroup. It was Geithner and Rahm Emanuel who sabotaged this effort. Geithner, Suskind contended, simply refused to come up with the plan that Obama had asked for and eventually convinced the president to go along with his own Wall Street– friendly approach. Emanuel, who had earned over $ 18 million in two and a half years working for the investment banking firm Wasserstein Perella after leaving the Clinton White House in 1999, insisted they all go along with Geithner. Obama rolled over without a fight.

Maybe you can talk with Warren. Ya know. REASON with her. Tell her, gently, that she's a grown-up now and shouldn't be whining for a pony.

Maybe you can get through to her before she ruins everything.
