Andrea Mitchell: Romney Adviser Said Party Elites Will Find Alternative If Romney Can't Win Florida

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2012/01/23/andrea_mitchell_romney_adviser_said_party_elites_will_find_alternative_if_romney_cant_win_florida.html (Video)

"I talked to a top Romney adviser tonight who said, 'Look, if Mitt Romney cannot win in Florida then we're going to have to try to reinvent the smoke-filled room which has been democratized by all these primaries. And we're going to have try to come with someone as an alternative to Newt Gingrich who could be Jeb Bush, Mitch Daniels, someone.' Because there is such a desperation by the so-called party elites, but that's exactly what Gingrich is playing against," Andrea Mitchell said on NBC tonight after the debate.

Say hello to a possible/probable brokered convention. I smell burning BushCo afoot.

1. A Romney advisor??

Not that I doubt this might be happening but a Romney advisor might have an incentive to exaggerate something like this.

3. I have said all along that this was planned. Why would the party elites allow this group of clowns

to represent their party? But what a perfect plan. By the convention, the republicon base will be dying to support a modest, moderate candidate that hasnt been dragged thru the shit, like Jeb "the smart son" Bush. The nitwit republicon base wont even care that they have been manipulated. "The old Bush is gone, long live the new Bush".

8. 1928 was the last time the Republicans won the Presidency without a Bush or a Nixon on the ticket

* John Quincy Adams: son of John Adams
* Zachary Taylor: second cousin of James Madison
* Grover Cleveland: sixth cousin once removed of Ulysses Grant
* Benjamin Harrison: grandson of William Henry Harrison

* Barack Obama: distant presidential cousins include President George W. Bush and his father, George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford, Lyndon Johnson, Harry S. Truman and James Madison.

4. Last night on Charlie Rose

Matthew Dowd (whom I presume speaks for the Republican "elites"), said there is no Republican elite anymore, and that if they had a meeting they'd have to have it in a phone booth. He claims this is totally out of the hands of the elites now: they are not running the show.

This was a variation on what I've been saying for some months: they've created a Frankenstein, and they can't control it now.

7. no way in hell it will be jeb.

jeb may have a clear shot in an open election in 2016.

why would he run against an incumbent in 2012?

only if some truly horrific obama scandal pops up between now and republican convention time will even consider jeb risking it.
