LOL - The Onion Nails it with this Mosque Arson Story

Last edited Thu Dec 20, 2012, 05:32 PM - Edit history (2)

White guy in Indiana drinks 45 beers, burns down a mosque and then tells the judge it was because all he knows of the world is what they told him on Fox News and talk radio.

Priceless! Also, congratulations on the Onion changing their name to Digital Journal. It's catchier.

Mosque arsonist tells court: 'I only know what I hear on Fox News'

Linn told the court that on September 30 he had gotten "riled up" as a result of watching Fox News and drinking beer. Linn claims to have drank 45 beers in seven hours before heading to the mosque and setting a fire in the prayer room. He was also reportedly armed with a revolver at the time.

During the court proceedings, Judge Jack Zouhary asked Linn if he knew any Muslims or knew what Islam was about.

"No, I only know what I hear on Fox news and what I hear on radio," Linn replied.

"Muslims are killing Americans and trying to blow stuff up," Linn told the judge. "Most Muslims are terrorists and don't believe in Jesus Christ," Linn falsely stated, ignorant of the fact that Jesus is revered as a prophet in Islam.

The OP is a joke about how you can't parody the modern wing-nut. It is not meant to fool people. The story is very real, not the Onion.

4. Naw... c'mon. Look at the guy!

(I know it's real. Just making a joke about how reality is so F'd up that it's almost impossible for satire to keep up.)

6. Ok I am confused now...

I read this headline earlier in the week, but didn't read the story. I thought it was a legit story at the time, err sort of it sounded really too bizarre to be true. Then I read this one and since it's an Onion piece I read the story. But, then people here say that this is a real deal. I have never heard of Digital News, so is this a spin off of the Onion?

24. Sorry. Not meant to deceive. It is a real story

I was joking about it being the Onion because the story is so F'd up that it reads like a parody

25. Well it is F'd up and it does read like a parody.

Even when I saw the real headline I was kind of thinking it was the Onion or the Borowitz Report or something like that. I mean this guy hit all the stereotypes of a parody of a RWer he could have possibly hit.

7. OK, I was fooled enough by the "onion" name change to look it up. I thought this no doubt had to be

...onion material.

Although none of it seems too funny, no matter how i try to relax about it. And I've tried...

11. The moral of the story is: turn off Fox News.

If this guy had drank his 45 beers watching Comedy Central I bet he would still be a free man.

13. I didn't question it for a moment.

The Onion being this spot shows that the line between satire and reality in now blurred.

14. This guy is superhuman. You have to give him some credit for being

able to FIND the local mosque after 45 beers.

Come to think of it, it is kind of impressive that somebody in Indiana knew what a mosque actually is and knew where it was.

A victim says he said that. This is why I haven't been sharing the crap out of this.

shot a bunch of people...

Wouldn't be so funny then.

22. Too bad sentences can't include some training about Islam.

The guy might actually learn something. Knowledge often goes a long way toward dispelling hate which is really a form of fear.

Hopefully Fox news is not allowed on prison teevees.
