Americans Have Been Purchasing Guns Like Mad Over The Past Week - New All-Time High Sales

http://www.pe.com/local-news/topics/topics-public-safety-headlines/20121218-gun-sales-hit-all-time-high.ece

My wife works in a field that brings her into association with police officers, and has become friends with a number of them on Facebook. The majority of cops, even in Portland, OR, are very socially conservative, religious, and downright fearful of modern society. My wife and I have been watching the conversations they've been having with friends, and it's absolutely terrifying.

The people we've been seeing chatting are extremely focused on amassing as many guns, mostly assault rifles, as they can before the godless liberals make them illegal. They are trading tips on where to find the best deals, who is running out of stock, and what the best models are and why.

I've also been flipping around on right wing talk radio, and am hearing the same thing. Yesterday the common line was that liberals are going to play the recent shootings to their advantage, and that people need to arm themselves now. Just go to whatever store you can get to, and buy the most guns you can afford, because the liberals are coming to take them away and we all need to be prepared to stand our ground.

The right is arming itself for what they see as an inevitable stand-off to protect their way of life. They are getting crazier by the day, and any talk of limiting how big of a personal armory they can build is sending them further into the fringe. These are the kinds of people who should not be trusted with guns, in my opinion. We have created an entire class of well-armed, paranoid insurrectionists. Ruby Ridge and Waco were child's play next what these fucking lunatics are capable of doing.

It's increased after Obama won reelection; this will push some of them right over the cliff. Expect more 'random violence!'

also. It started after Obama was elected (preppers?), and increased now. Heard this from my husband who wen to a gun show, and reported in the local papers.

Frightening to me. Thankfully, I don't have children, and don't work in a school any more.

the parking lot, some with signs that say "Obama is taking your Social Security." I've never been in that store but judging from those waiting outside it must be wall-to-wall people in there. My street is like an armed camp--and most of these folks are Democrats. I already have a gun but I'm not sure where the bullets are. I guess if the Social Security change is made, I'll have to find them.

"Someone got killed by a gun she purchased and then her guns were used to kill a bunch of kids and school employees. So I'd better get some guns too."

I imagine the logic is that they're afraid this will lead to laws making it harder to get guns so they'd better get them while they can, but still, I can't see why people can't make the connection that the woman who bought those guns is dead and a bunch of other people, including young children, are also dead because she bought those guns.

I have no problem with pushing them right over the edge into utter lunacy.

If a classroom full of slaughtered kids is less important to them than their guns then they do not belong in civilized society.

The Second Most Powerful Gun Lobby in the Country is Located in Newtown, Conn.
Lydia DePillis | The New Republic | December 14, 2012 | 5:07 pm

Just across the highway from Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, in a stately white building with an American flag flying out front, is the headquarters of the United States’ premiere industry association for gun retailers.

They love the flag, but hate the country, 9/10 of its inhabitants, its laws, and pretty much everything else.

They DO, however, love anybody with a net worth of 7 figures or more.

As well as many more homeless, or in the modern shantytowns of trailer courts. I don't see why people have this strange fascination of wanting to see your fellow citizens die.
This constant dehumanizing of and by both sides is doing nothing but empowering a select, and elite ruling class. I live in the South and many of my coworkers are good people who are as scared and distrustful of big business and banks as any OWS protester, they should be our natural allies, they are poor and oppressed, but the constant classism and regionilism as well as whole sale bigotry displayed by many here is why the 1% is winning, and sitting safe in guarded enclaves.
Aside from that, they are armed and trained, by our own military, there are a lot of vets with first hand knowledge and experience on insurgency running around today. They are not all cowards or wannabes. This is not a fight any sane or compassionate person wants to ever happen, because if it does we are done as a nation.

has long since jumped the shark. I knew that last summer when an episode of The Rich & Self-Obsessed of Dallas (or somesuch title, I forget what it was) showed women trying to buy pink guns for their handbags.

People think guns are sexy now. They're not, they're terminally stupid.

People who love children more than guns are turning the guns in. Bravo. They don't want to take even an infinitesimal chance that the guns will be stolen and used to massacre human beings. They don't want to be the next Nancy Lanza.

People who love guns more than they love children are frantically buying more and higher powered guns. Their selfish desire to play with lethal toys blinds them to the risk of their hobby. They don't care that they are taking the chance their guns will be used to massacre children in the local elementary school.

It sickens me that more Americans are frantically buying weapons, and bragging about it, than there are Americans melting down their guns.

Some days its hard to love my country.

Repeal the Second Amendment Now.
