Sensitive, appropriate, perfectly suited for a moment like this.
The National Rifle Association seems to have broken its silence about the horror that took place on Friday in Newtown, Connecticut. And it just proved that it has its head buried several miles up its ass.
Leslie Mayes, a producer in the Washington Bureau for Time Warner Cable's news channels (NY1, YNN and News 14 Carolina), tweeted this statement from the NRA earlier this afternoon:

Excuse me? Twenty kids just got shot to pieces with an assault rifle. What "facts" are Wayne LaPierre and company waiting for? After this, I'm convinced more than ever--all gun owners who support responsible regulations on guns should walk out on the NRA. That's the only way to defang LaPierre and his crew.
I mentioned this in an update to my earlier diary, but this is so outrageously dense it merited a post of its own.
4:13 PM PT: And apparently neither does the only 2nd Amendment absolutist who had the guts to come out of hiding today, Louie Gohmert. On Faux News Sunday, he actually claimed that the kids had defensive wounds. ThinkProgress has the video (h/t to LivesinaShoe).

(14,120 posts)What difference does that make. They were shot! They are gone! Does "the kids had defensive wounds" make it better!
Thinking of those little kids fight for their lived make it worse! They should never had to!
Hear that NRA? They should NEVER had to!

(36,437 posts)It's high time to make these shit bags irrelevant.
The time for conversation with these people is over. Develop the legislation, propose it, and dare the fuckers to vote against it. Then keep doing it. Every month if necessary.
We don't need them to cooperate. We force them to act correctly by force of law. End of story. We impose our will on them to solve this public health emergency. if they don't like it, well, we have plenty of federal prisons for them.
