I've been contributing a small amount monthly to the Biden/ Harris campaign.
Today I received a bumper sticker from their campaign.
I'm tempted to put it on my car, but I'm afraid the cracker, pick up driving, mental case, trump loving, citizens might take issue with it.
with MY First Amendment rights.
I hate the feeling of cowardice, and I hate that I am yielding to the goons.

(14,224 posts)I live in a blue area (about 60/40) but the Trumpers we do have are loud and crazy so something could happen to my car.

(26,116 posts)My free speech is not worth getting road raged over.
I'm already a bad driver.
I don't consider the highway to be a "free speech zone". (YMMV)
And it could also entice a cop to pull you over and make your day worse. Ive known one cop who normally lets some things slide most of the time, but will pull someone over for the exact same thing because the car had a bumper sticker for a team he hated. Why infuriate people who can make your day go bad?

(3,811 posts)I live in a very seemingly peaceful town in Florida. Very, very few flags (2 in 3 years) and maybe 5 bumper stickers. But my friend who lived here first refused to drive south with me when I moved unless I pulled a Nasty Girls sticker off my car. She had just lived through the 2020 election and said it was awful. Apparently the town has worked hard to keep things peaceful since than, but I get the feeling that things could escalate quickly. So the most I've done is several Ukrainian pictures and a "Don't let hate win" small banner. I really, really want to do more, but it all seems like things are just simmering underground and could go either way. So, no Biden sticker for me. Makes me very, very sad and ashamed. But it is what it is. Times are not normal.

(3,441 posts)Traveling in Europe. Every time Biden, Obama, or any (every) one of the 457 Democrats running for Congress and Senate send a beg text, it costs me a quarter to open and a quarter to respond with a block message. Soon, I will owe my carrier a fortune.
I will never share my real phone number again!

(4,736 posts)I never put out my Biden/Harris lawn sign over the same fears.
Go with your gut. If you are even thinking harassment might be a possibility then it is most likely a totally legit concern. You need to stay, and feel, safe.

(91,421 posts)But the day after Trump was elected, I sat in my driveway and peeled off the Hillary bumper sticker. I already felt threatened by Trump and his MAGAs.
And yes, I felt cowardly.

(36,695 posts)That movie changed so many attitudes, IMO. And quickly, too. It's like people were yearning for someone with facts to speak out, to challenge what was going on, what we were being told. (Also I live in a very blue pocket.)
Moore was dissed a lot here when he predicted Clinton would lose in 2016, even naming the swing states where he thought she was at risk, but he was right. I still like him. Sicko was another eye opening movie for a lot of people, finding out that people WITH insurance were not getting the care they needed. Choose between saving these two fingers or this one. WTF?
A totally different movie that I loved was Where to Invade Next. A little dated but still good.

I don't consider that cowardice, just good awareness of your situation.

(58,763 posts)I saw my first BIden/Harris yard sign and I have yet to see a *rump sign anywhere.
Last summer there was one person with a long banner that said Trump in 24 hanging on his fence.
He took it down about 3 month ago.
Usually I see many more Republican signs than Democratic ones and it's early yet but this looks promising to me.
Thanks for sharing Conjuay

(51,774 posts)I get lots of positive feedback. I also made "lock him up" earrings and people ask to take pictures of them.
I live in a blue area so I'm not worried.
