Thoughts from a friend on Facebook....

Enjoy...I did.

Someone recently said something to me to the effect that since I am such an advocate for tolerance I should be more tolerant towards other people in return. My response? When the fuck did I say I was tolerant? I have absolutely no tolerance for bullshit and shenanigans. I have zero tolerance for homophobic douchebags, for right wing pigeons from outer space (thank you, Dead Milkmen), for the fact that Michelle Bachman is on the Intelligence Committee, for 'Muricans, for people who type "Ur" instead of "You're," for people who don't realize that we are ALL immigrants and citizens of the world, that being part of a government for and of the people means we are responsible for the well being of all our fellow countrymen (regardless of how they got here) and that means providing affordable healthcare, it means funding programs to help veterans find jobs or adjust to post-war life as a civilian, extra funding for struggling school districts and teache
rs, and on and on and on and on.... I have abso-fucking-lutely no tolerance for people throw around the words 'socialism' or 'communism' like they have any idea what it actually means (seriously, have you never met anyone who lived in one of the former Soviet block countries? They find Americans misuse of this word HILARIOUS), who think that fighting to keep gays from the right to marry is a useful way to spend their time and money (or as a country, our time and our money), and for religious zealots of any flavor. I have no tolerance for Ann Coulter/Mike Huckabee/Sarah Palin types, fuck them and every stupid thing that falls out of their mouths, for people who complained about the two major parties during the election but never bothered to look into the candidates for the Libertarian or Green parties. I have no tolerance for people who think the Holocaust wasn't real or 'wasn't that bad,' who think the moon landing was faked, global warming isn't real, or that every single person on government assistance is 'just looking for a handout.' Fuck them. Tolerance means having an open minded, permissive attitude towards the opinions or ideas of an opposing viewpoint. I tried that. Hated it. I don't have the patience for stupid, and I don't feel like stupid is entitled to my patience either. Look, I am absolutely happy to hear out a counterpoint - bring em on - but when you do, make sure you have something to actually say.
