https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/12/one-dead-after-israeli-settlers-storm-palestinian-village-in-west-bankDozens of angry Israeli settlers have stormed into a Palestinian village in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, shooting and setting houses and cars on fire. Palestinian health officials said one Palestinian man was killed and 25 others were wounded in the attack.
The violence was the latest in an escalation in the West Bank that has accompanied the war in the Gaza Strip. An Israeli rights group said the settlers were searching for a missing 14-year-old boy from their settlement. After the rampage, Israeli troops said they were still searching for the teen.
The killing came after an Israeli raid overnight killed two Palestinians, including a Hamas militant, in confrontation with Israeli forces.
Palestinian health officials say more than 460 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces since the war erupted in October.

I try hard to live by my moral code and never defend groups or nations for partisan reasons.
Genocide and war crimes continue in Gaza with a lot of Western countries, including US complicity

(9,406 posts)After a 24-hour search for the missing 14-year-old shepherd, Binyamin Achimair, his body was discovered in the same region where he went missing, Israeli media reported on Saturday.
The IDF confirmed the cause of death as being a terrorist murder, with security services currently in pursuit of those believed responsible.
Due to the nationalist motive of the murder, the investigation was handed over to the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency).

Not because the Israelis pictured in the photos are not extremists, but because they didn't storm the Al Aqsa mosque.
Al Aqsa mosque is just one structure in the Al Aqsa compound, aka the Temple Mound, the holiest site in Judaism where the Jewish Temple and the Holy of Holies and the Arc of the Covenant once stood.
The Jewish extremists, in violation of the Jewish law but not the agreement between Israel and Jordan, the legal custodian of the compound, entered the site, not the mosque. Bab al-Qattanin (Gate of the Cotton Merchants) is the gate to the compound, not to the mosque. The rumors of the mosque being stormed were just that: viral rumors. This didn't preclude various Arab sources (including yours) who claim to be serious journalists from spreading these rumors as legitimate news items.

(488 posts)I hate that our foreign policy is handicapped to undyingly support their bull shit religious objectives, destroying lives in the process. We provide them full backing yet they spit in our faces time and again. Bombing a hospital when our president was EN ROUTE, posting pictures of killing families and their remains, bombing Iranian embassies and now this. And we have to tip toe

(46,160 posts)to "re-claim" their land under a variety of ruses, e.g., extra-judicial justice, eminent domain, or whatever. They view Palestinians living on their own land to be "squatters" and they must be removed. And as a result, the land is transferred to Israeli Jews without having to compensate for the acquisition of land.
Furthermore, this MO might mean if Israel goes after Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Israel "captures" territory of southern Lebanon, that too, will be a means to expand Israeli territory as they won't relinquish it after the conflict.

(2,047 posts)It's a hijacking of someone else's land, like our settlers did to the Indians here back in less enlightened times.
When indigenous people, the Indians, resisted our settler invasion and occupation, they were called Savages and slaughtered because we wanted their land.
Nowadays, in more modern times, when indigenous Palestinians resist settler invasion & occupation (and even when they don't) they are called Terrorists and slaughtered, because Israel wants their land.
In the old days, the US sent the Cavalry to back up and spearhead the settlers' land grab and displacement of the indigenous people.
General Sheridan said "The only good Indian is a dead Indian."
Nowadays, similarly, the US arms and facilitates Israel's 'cavalry,' the IDF, in the settler invasion, occupation, and land grab of Palestinian land.
Some things never change--like settler land grabs with US support.

(2,047 posts)And we look back and say what a cruel and horrible period in history that was. Thank goodness no civilized country today would charge in and steal someone's land that way, burning indigenous families out of their homes & farms & stealing everything from them. Surely not.
And surely Uncle Sam would never be a part of it. Never!
Oh wait. We're not only part of it, we finance it and provide diplomatic cover for this atrocious throwback to continue.

(61,939 posts)The disappearance of 14-year-old Binyamin Achimair sparked attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinian villages on Friday and Saturday. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in a statement on social media urged people not to take the law into their own hands.
On Friday, Palestinian Jehad Abu Alia was killed and 25 others were wounded in the attack on al-Mughayyir village, Palestinian health officials said. On Saturday, Israeli troops delayed for several hours the ambulance carrying the 26-year-old mans body for burial, witnesses said.
