Ah, the joys of spending Thanksgiving with right wing nuts

Yes, another enjoyable Thanksgiving with my family and the folks they invited. It all started when my SIL and her father spoke up at the same time and said how the President was driving the country to disaster, the ACA was going to be the demise of the country, and those horrible "non-traditional" folks were soaking the USA with their completely unfounded welfare claims.

To which I responded "that is one opinion, a rather shallow opinion, but an opinion nonetheless" and asked how they could support the basic tenets of the ACA when it was a major proposal of the GOP when Newt was promoting healthcare reform but not when the first Black President pushed the same reform, then asked what ME country they wanted us to invade to advance the good old USA instead of trying to improve the lives of fellow Americans.

Silence befell the group. Not a response from the RW'ers.

Three glasses of wine later they left and I enjoyed my reheated dinner.

I will be alone for Christmas rather than endure any more of those stupid fucker's nonsense.

I wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving.

I won't even aknowledge you! Yet alone enter into a conversation with you...all Republicans are fucking scum...my wife and I havent talked her parents for 16 years now and her parents have missed being grandparents to our two children...but it is much better this so that they don't get pullted with their crazy, danerous ideas policially.

It's possible to get your point across without angering your relatives. Ask them where they get their information. When they say "Rush Limbaugh," you attack Rush Limbaugh. Try it!

Did they know the moon landings were staged?
"Gee, isn't it awful warm today (which it will be)?"
"No, the planet isn't melting, it's just those lying liberal thermometers."
Then I scare them by lowering my voice and saying, "Hillary"

It was your home and WE WON, so you set the bar at the LOW threshold for bull****. Conversations are going to be different this year and better the next.

Rush is on a banana peel, think he's going to slip and slide out of there.

Murdoch is having problems with FAUX over seas and we'll have to find ways to make it harder for him here too. Constant push back on their malarky.

This year I didn't get into it with people, but they didn't start anything either. I usually speak up and provide factual rebuttal and encourage people to fact check and not just blindly follow FAUX Knews. My FIL and I are on the same page, but his younger son, my BIL has been drinking the kool-aid. I think he's probably more a Libertarian, but still using the same lingo.

We had several health scares with family members this year, so we're more concerned with being family when we're together right now and that's fine with me.

Once they get specific it is so easy to mock them and, of course, in four years show them how wrong they were.
And asking them to define "socialism", which they can't.
And I used the "invasion" ploy when one suggested Obama didn't retaliate for Benghazi.
It really is so much fun to exploit their ignorance.

However, at our Thanksgiving family gathering, politics was strangely ignored. The Left Wing branch is outnumbered. But we knew to not bring up anything, and so it was completely avoided. Not sure why. We usually get a jab or a joke. I fear that racism is strong with our right wing branch.

I'm thankful for the peace this time. And that I made a large Cheese Ball that blew their socks off!

and the liberals are supposed to shut up and take it, fuming in the knowledge that the rightwingnuts MUST be right.

I started speaking up, mildly, to my rightwingnut father, a few years ago. It was hard. He's very hard nosed, strong willed, authoritarian, and THE FATHER...who had been a rather mean one but changed in his older years. Still, I finally started speaking up. The world did not end. He lightened up. We've had a few good discussions. His mind doesn't change. My mind doesn't change. I know that I'm right. He thinks that he's right. C'est la vie.

I try to look for the common areas, though. They're there.

... just don't go back. If your family asks why, tell them. Maybe if they realize how it affects you, they won't do it. I have a brother who is a winger, but he and I have agreed to never talk politics as we are polar opposites. We love each other too much to let politics drive us apart. You did the right thing. When your family calls when they make Christmas plans, just tell them you will not attend if politics is going to be discussed.

With my autistic son, his rebel without a cause brother and his hippie girlfriend, my eldest gun-nut son and his wife, his gay best friend and his partner, his Wal-Mart manager father-in-law, 90 year old grandmother-in-law, hypochondriac mother-in-law, bipolar brother in law, my long-suffering wife and, to make matters worse, me.

All the ingredients for a clusterfuck of chaos, but it was really quite nice.

while watching opposing groups in other countries, for instance in Ireland, how two groups in the same country could hate each other so much. Then this new RWNJ virus spread through my family and now I understand. Because I am getting to the point where I literally hate them. And that bothers me because I've never experienced hatred in myself for anyone. Oh sure, there's been the rhetorical flourishes but this time it's visceral. I truly hate RWNJs. And it's mainly due to their refusal to accept facts and because they get so angry when presented with same and for their extreme selfishness.

I really want this country rid of them.

I am worn out arguing point by point so what I do is bring up the fact that the 2012 election is the beginning of the end of the white establishment. And the only ones talking this nonsense are angry white people - men and married women, mainly.

Then watch in pleasure when I tell them that by mid-century the white race will be in the numerical minority in this country.

I'm eternally grateful to Rush and Fox News. They made it really easy to figure out who's going to still be a part of "my family" and who's getting kicked to the curb.

Yeah, I kinda miss the days when nobody got kicked to the curb.
