That Microsoft ad for "Surface"

I thought it was a bad ad because it has so much going on I couldn't figure out exactly what the product does. Then I saw a longer version of the ad which features a fast clip of some school girls in uniform doing a little march. Am I the only one that finds that part a little creepy?

1. I still don't get the point.

And that little flap on the back looks unstable. If I want a laptop ill just buy a laptop.

6. Seriously

They work very hard to make sure everyone buys a keyboard with this thing, plus there is a version of Office for it.

Let's see now...I can buy Surface with a keyboard for $595, or a Windows laptop for $500 and do more things with it. Not much of a choice.

14. it is better than ipad

ipad cost the same 500 and I can only browse with it. It doesn't have flash support. Surface has flash and office for reading word documents at the least. I have both ipad2 and surface. I don't touch ipad these days. And regular laptops cannot be used for bed time browsing plus the battery life is short. Everyone has reasons to use their own favorite toys. Let us not glorify ipad and ridicule surface.

15. Did I mention iPad?

I use a laptop in bed all the time. It can be done. Battery life for bedtime browsing is immaterial because you won't do it for hours on end. And seriously...Office? The thing is an overpriced netbook, not really a tablet.

16. laptop in bedtime

browsing while lying down is not easy. Maybe you can do it. I find it difficult to do it. And reading word documents with tablets is so much easier. However for serious work you do need a regular laptop.

Ipad comment is for the whole thread and not directed at you. I wish apple fans stop thinking that the ipads are the only legitimate tablets.

4. It's an image ad, common with tech products.

It's been pretty common since the famous 1984 Apple Macintosh TV ad.

These ads remind me of that funny "Mr. Plow" bit on The Simpson's.

Bart: "Dad, is that your ad?"
Homer: "I don't know!"

Or, more recently, Stewie's iPod ad on Family Guy.

7. Bah! Of course it looks creepy- those aren't children. Look at their faces.

Scan their faces for expression. They're soul-less robots.

Only one child wears an expression of happiness. The rest appear like character's from Ellison's "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream".

They idiotically slipped almost everyone in that commercial into the uncanny valley.

Only Microsoft...I mean, it's not like this is a Bjork video or anything.

9. I think what creeps me out is the inclusion of young girls in school uniforms -

if it'd been both boys and girls in school uniforms, it might have been OK, (see - simple enough for kids to use!) but as it is it raises the hairs on the back of my neck (here's some girls in uniforms for the pervs out there!).

10. I had a diff. take. When I saw that I thought "Oh the BOYS get to be individuals, eh?"

I have no idea what exactly marketing was thinking.

8. They far exceed the creepiness of the Tarako Girls. By a factor of at least 100.

God bless those girls. They got me through some tough times. When I was happy.

12. LOL! Crazy. Never seen that one before. Ever see "Little Red Riding Hood"?

You have to watch it till the end. I actually taught myself the dance.

And had the salesperson try a hard sell...

It is an IPad wannabe with a scaled down operating system.
