Just FYI, I tried to post this to LBN a few days ago, but it got locked as not being news. Given recent events, though, I thought people might be interested.
I'm not sure they'll succeed, but I wish more people would do this.

The lawsuit by relatives of five of the 10 people killed in Boulder was served on the company Thursday and is expected to be filed this week in Superior Court in Stamford, Connecticut, according to Andrew Garza, a lawyer for the plaintiffs. The son of a sixth victim sued the company on March 14.
Both lawsuits accuse Sturm, Ruger & Co. of marketing its AR-556 pistol, which resembles a rifle, in a reckless and immoral way that promoted its killing capability and glorified lone gunmen. The lawsuits, which seek undisclosed damages, are expected to be consolidated into one case, Garza said.

to go after the way they advertise, instead of claiming that they are co-conspirators or somehow an active participant in the murders.
But I'm not sure.

(24,472 posts)HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) The families of nine victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting announced Tuesday they have agreed to a $73 million settlement of a lawsuit against the maker of the rifle used to kill 20 first graders and six educators in 2012.
The case was watched closely by gun control advocates, gun rights supporters and manufacturers, because of its potential to provide a roadmap for victims of other shootings to sue firearm makers.
The families and a survivor of the shooting sued Remington in 2015, saying the company should have never sold such a dangerous weapon to the public. They said their focus was on preventing future mass shootings by forcing gun companies to be more responsible with their products and how they market them.

(5,559 posts)I think they are trying to mimic that success as the CT law was around marketing practices, which appears to be the basis here too.
I can't find anything to indicate that CO does or does not have a similar law around marketing.

(4,575 posts)but it didn't get any responses. I wonder sometimes if we are becoming apathetic to gun violence as it is happening so often these days.
Good on these folks for their suit and I wish them well with it. How unconscionable to lose a loved one this way and be left with little to no recourse. The shooter is schizophrenic, his family knew and did nothing (we have red flag laws here) and he is unlikely to ever stand trial. And on we go, watching helplessly as old ladies at the grocery store, people at parades and school children get slaughtered because the problem is not ever guns.
