I posted this before the election and didn't get many responses, the pre-election jitters/jinx, I'm gonna see if I can get any more responses this time.
Top of the list, I think this should be the civil rights era for the gay and lesbian community. I'd love to see some serious reform here. If marriage is defined by god, then the government should butt out as with any tax exemptions that go along with marriage.
Slippery slope here, but something needs to be addressed/done about faux newz. I'm all for free speech, I don't just understand how they can get away with some of the shit that comes out of bullshit mountain. Maybe a disclaimer prior to the shows staying that this is editorial opinions and not facts.
Medicinal marijuana. Nuff said.
Voting overhaul. It's 2012, and we are supposed to be the poster child for democracy. While we may not have to dodge mortars and car bombs on the way to the polling site (which I am ever grateful) its high time that standing in lines for hours on end. Needless to say, a uniform voting process.
I'd like to see Gitmo go away but I just don't see that happening. We can't get rid of em if the countries either a. don't want them or b. can't gaurentee they won't end back in circulation.
I'd like to see a REAL step forward to alternative energy. I know there are some competitions for these innovations, I'd like to see more. If redbull can have a guy jump from the outer portion of our atmosphere, I'm sure there are a lot of ideas out there that just aren't getting out.

(602 posts)That would be major civil rights victory for his administration. Although, with Prop 8 potentially going to the Supreme Court late this month...

...I'm not sure it will be necessary for him to take action.

(6,342 posts)The whole gay marriage thing right now is a fight with states and the courts. And like you said, SCOTUS will now weigh in on it by next June. I certainly don't see Congress even touching it anytime before that ruling. And they really might be able to do much. The federal government doesn't issue you a marriage license, the states do that. So that makes it really kind of difficult for the feds to really get involved in this debate. You got several state constitutions amended banning same-sex marriage. So ultimately it is something the Supreme Court would have to settle anyway.

(18,672 posts)stop sicking the feds on pot farms and shops - stop the drug war altogether, stop gerrymandering, overturn Citizen's United, voter reform - no one should be prevented from voting by incompetent SOS's, Governors or racist, jack-booted thugs posing as poll workers/watchers. Continue clean energy technology, outlaw fracking, a WPA-like program to create jobs and not only fix, but build up our infrastructure. I'd love to see state-of-the-art, above ground, high speed trains. I am 100% on board having competitions to move any or all of these forward.
