Rachel is covering how much the Women did to elect men and women candidates nationwide! By huge numbers!
I am embarrassed White Males seem to vote GOP in such large numbers!

(61,599 posts)I know that you all voted Democratic, and many of you are lifelong Democrats. But as men, you might have some insights into why so many white men are Republican. I'm curious to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

(22,457 posts)And white males tend to have it easier than many other races so they don't understand suffering as easily.

(1,439 posts)1) People vote their pocketbook and whites, men, and married people are factors that are positively correlated with income. In other words, it's not that "white" or "men" or "married" causes people to vote R, it's the money.
2) The perception that white men are last on the list of D priorities, if they're even on the list at all.
3) The lack of a gender related "reason" to vote D, eg. abortion rights.
4) A culture that penalizes male dependence and rewards male independence (I'm not sure if that's quite the right word... maybe 'self-sufficiency'?), which matches more closely with R governing philosophy than D governing philosophy.
I can probably come up with theories all night...
5) Far more men than women serve or have served in the military. Veterans are more republican and less democratic than the general population. There may be no cause and effect here. I'm just throwing out ideas.
6) Their friends vote R (or at least they think they do).
7) The misconception that public policy is zero-sum, ie. to give to group A you must take away from group B (and group B is perceived to be white men).

(5,662 posts)another gross generalization but men tend to be more (or are conditioned to be) more competitive and so winner-takes-all social Darwinism is a model they are more likely to accept than women who tend to be (or are conditioned to be) more cooperative and likely to favor consensus-based decision making.
It's probably a fear of declining power that's driving some.

(18,672 posts)as well. I looked around the room I was in on election night and saw a very diverse crowd. I noted all the white males still on our side - men who know are so confident in who they are that they aren't threatened by gays, women or people of color. That's something to be damn proud of. There's something especially attractive about men who know they don't have to be an assholes to prove they're men.

(544 posts)I salute and thank all of the everyone - men and women - who made the re-election of Obama and 20 women in the Senate(!) happen. Its doesn't matter the color, ethnicity, social status, or career. We are in this together. I have voted in every election since 1968. I am most proud this time around. With aloha.....

We are fortunate. Our combined income is greater than what Mittens thinks is the average middle class income. But in Mitt-land, our income is probably welfare worthy.
This might sound strange......but TAX me. I want the benefits that our government provides and we are not above paying the price for it!!
Call me a Socialist. I'm okay with that.
On another note... How on god's green earth do you all keep up with all the posts, emails, etc.!!!!
Hell, I have a hard time opening my own email, much less figure out how to open a bank account in Switzerland. There must be an app for that. But then, I don't download apps... Too much trouble. I can't figure them out anyway. I can barely email my kids or post here.
And what the heck is this Twitty thing?
Okay....almost 48 hours with little sleep has finally got the best of me. Forgive this post..... Will probably be self-deleted tomorrow.
