Washington Post: Romney Immediately Regretted Benghazi Response

Washington Post: Romney Immediately Regretted Benghazi Response

BENJY SARLIN 10:19 AM EST, WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 7, 2012

Aides to Mitt Romney told the Washington Post that Romney was upset with his much maligned handling of the Benghazi attack in September -- but decided to double down on it anyway in order to keep the base from growing demoralized.

From the Post:

By sunrise the next day, it was clear to Romney that they had acted too quickly. The campaign learned that four Americans had been killed in an attack on a U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. Even to some Republicans, Romney’s hasty statement looked insensitive.

“We screwed up, guys,” Romney told aides on a conference call that morning, according to multiple people on the call. “This is not good.”

His advisers told him that, if he took back his statement, the neoconservative wing of the party would “take his head off.” He stood by it during an appearance in Florida. Two days later, Obama traveled to Joint Base Andrews to meet the four flag-draped coffins.

Romney is impulsive and emotional while Obama is cautious and thoughtful.

That is why we trust Obama more.

Teaparty & neocons out of the house is not. The ones still in office need to be sidelined and we need to continue to stand together to put pressure on our representatives to repudiate the extremists & their agenda.

14. Spineless caving in to the right wing showed his weak character

On every issue he failed to show any backbone against the neocons and the Tea Party extremists but he also failed to ever stand up against the blatant dishonesty of his political operatives who invented demonstrably false claims against Obama that Romney refused to retract.
