PLEASE NOTE! In PA, FIRST TIME voters *DO* need valid ID. And they have for decades.

This is *NOT* voter suppression. It is the law...

My daughter (who is 18) is a first time voter. On the card they sent home after she registered, it says in BOLD print that first-time voters *MUST* bring ID.

Please don't scream "voter suppression" when you don't know the law. If you just registered for the first time in PA, you *DO* need ID.

Always have.

"If you're voting for the first time at a new polling place - after moving your residence or registering to vote for the first time - you will be required to show some form of ID, but the options are flexible. You can provide a government-issued photo ID, like a driver's license, a student or employee photo ID card, or non-photo ID with your name and address, like a utility bill, bank statement, or paycheck."

Per www.votespa.com:

If you do not have a photo ID, you can use a non-photo identification that includes your name and address. Approved forms of non-photo identification include:
Confirmation issued by the County Voter Registration Office

Non-photo ID issued by the Commonwealth
Non-photo ID issued by the U.S. Government
Firearm permit
Current utility bill
Current bank statement
Current paycheck
Government check

or similar things with your name and address printed on them all suffice. And it isn't just voting for the first time. EVERYONE has to do that when voting in a new precinct for the first time, but never again.

I just hope the PASC totally overturns the law this winter. The requirements they passed back to Simpson were very stringent and he had no choice but to issue the injunction.
