Exit polls in U.S. elections are done by a consortium of media groups. How reliable are they? Steve Inskeep talks to Andy Kohut, president of the Pew Research Center, for an explanation of how exit polling works on Election Day.

UGGH! I've never heard an expert on a mainstream broadcast admit that they had to change the polls in 2004. Why didn't they question why those results were wrong?

(16,993 posts)We are the first to cry foul. When that happens here, we simply change the exit polls to reflect the vote tally.
Why?

(19,841 posts)the mass media complicity after the Selection of 2004 was incredible. It amounted to a blackout on the subject. Do you think they would admit that?
People who were paying close attention did know what happened to the exit polls. But it didn't get aired so the rest of the country could know.
So if they're talking about it openly now, good. But I wouldn't rely only on mainstream media.
This shows you how long it takes information to filter out. It protects white collar criminals enormously.

Sen. John Kerry looks to make a victory of the electoral college, according to all sets of exit polls conducted by a consortium of six media organizations (the National Election Pool) that RAW STORY has acquired and confirmed with myriad sources.
The first, third and final round give Kerry a wide berth in all critical swing states. The second round put Kerry ahead in Ohio and Florida, but only by a one point margin.
The latest national exit polls puts Kerry up 51-48 percent nationally. -snip-
