Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock became the latest Republican candidate this cycle to spark a political firestorm over comments regarding rape and pregnancy, reigniting the debate over womens issues and the importance they could play on Election Day.
Speaking at the final debate for Indiana Senate candidates, Mr. Mourdock responded to a question about his stance on abortion by suggesting if a woman is impregnated during rape it was Gods intention.

UPDATE: Some Republicans distanced themselves from Mr. Mourdock on Wednesday. In Indiana, Rep. Mike Pence, a fellow Republican who has pushed to defund Planned Parenthood and is now running for governor, urged Mr. Mourdock to apologize. I strongly disagree with the statement made by Richard Mourdock during last nights Senate debate, he said in a statement. I urge him to apologize.
And the Associated Press reported Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire canceled a trip to Indiana Wednesday to campaign with Mr. Mourdock.
At the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Chairman John Cornyn of Texas issued a statement defending Mr. Mourdock: Richard and I, along with millions of Americans including even Joe Donnelly believe that life is a gift from God. To try and construe his words as anything other than a restatement of that belief is irresponsible and ridiculous.

(1,345 posts)for is saying out loud what all the repugs think. Women know an apology would be meaningless. If they believe this crap then they should be willing to speak out. oh that's right, they would never win anything again. What a bunch of sorry losers.

Some members of the GOP are more prescient than others, although they may not be self-aware of it.
One by one, they are walking off a cliff because they know -deep down- that the end is nigh. How else to explain so many blatantly self-destructive comments?
