http://www.pressherald.com/politics/bean-rallies-perfect-maine-with-warnings-of-hitler_2012-10-26.html*snip*
"OBAMA is HITLERIAN in his course, and he is closing in VERY FAST to eliminate totally our liberty rights and heritage," warned Bean, the granddaughter and heiress to the legendary L.L. Bean, in a recent letter to her fellow Mainers.
Not just any Mainers, mind you. This ear-splitting alarm was aimed specifically at Maine Republicans who still think Republican Congressman Ron Paul should be our next president.
Bean's point: Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential candidate that Maine's insurgent libertarians love to hate, ain't so bad when compared to the sitting president of the United States. Also known, at least to Bean, as a modern-day Adolf Hitler.
Lace up your Bean boots and watch where you step, folks. We're going back to Crazytown.

Bean and her 7 million dollar inheritance have tried to buy out one of our small fishing communities. Most everyone up here know what she is -
This is her website and her products - please add this to your list of boycotts.

(4 posts)Actually, I have my own business, separate and apart from LL Bean, and I'm there with a paycheck for several hundred Maine employees and fishermen every week. I run a 28,000 square foot processing plant as integrated part of a trap-to-table model of sharing profits with those who fish wild caught Maine lobster. That is definitely eccentric, as there are only 4 processing plants in Maine, and they are only able to deal with about 25% of the need. Most Maine lobster is processed by Canadian processors -- big trucks running up there all the time from our small fishing villages -- instead of being processed with Maine workers. Then much of it reenters the USA with Canadian labels on it, an identity theft of unfortunate dimensions. I am eccentric enough to believe the jobs should stay in Maine.

(14,881 posts)I'm sorry to inform you that, unless and until you denounce the letter attributed to you above, I will NOT be enjoying them any more.
While I appreciate your business, and keeping jobs in Maine, I do NOT believe that comparing President Obama to Adolph Hitler is honest, reasonable, fair, intelligent, or makes any sense at all.
Adolph Hitler mass-murdered over 6 million people, mostly innocent families, in factories specifically set up for the purpose of murder. He attempted to take over the world, bombing the daylights out of our allies.
Please enlighten us all as to in what way, exactly, doe President Obama seem like Adolph Hitler.
Seriously, I'm sorry to have to say goodbye to your lobster rolls.
DeschutesRiver
(2,354 posts)From the way you framed your response, it appears the answer is yes. If that is not the case, please respond.
Second, did you make the remarks that are being attributed to you regarding our President? If you did not, please respond.
I will take a non-response as verifying the truth of the report in the OP
Not only have I bought excellent quality goods from LL Bean in the past, I traveled from the West Coast to Maine last year - wonderful state. But if you did make those comments about Obama, I will not purchase items from LL Bean anymore, and when I return to Maine, I will make certain I do not make purchases from your business. That will not prevent my eating a ton of lobster, as we did last time, nor will it prevent me from purchasing quality goods in Maine; it just means I will not buy from your enterprises.
Because I am certain that you would not want your business to be dependent upon money from people who support Obama, whom you claim is like Hitler in his approach - no sane person would take a dime from anyone who supported that sort of thing. If we can get the word out for you, then you will be safe from selling things to people like us who claim are out to steal your "liberty rights".
You are entitled to believe and behave as you please, and I am entitled to believe and behave as I please. I am merely grateful to the OP for posting this, as I was contributing to beliefs that I find not only find to be ridiculous but false. And I will be spreading the word on this, unless there is no truth to the report.

(4 posts)That is true of LL Bean, Inc. But not of Linda Bean. All my lobster products are from Maine, and processed in Maine --guaranteed. Also shrimp, and now crab, which I have begun to process this year to give year-round work to those who are employed in my plant and to provide the carefully picked fresh product that people living and visiting in Maine know is the very best.
I believe I am the only Maine lobster dealer who does NOT buy from or sell to a foreign country.

Linda Bean
(4 posts)Well, the failed part occurred on the dime(s) of my predecessors. For restoration I started with a $75,000 roof (it is two large buildings joined together).
Nearly all the rotton wharf pilings have been replaced with new ones; and the wharf floats have all been replaced, as have the railings all around the docks. Much of the wharf deck has been replaced. It is a much safer place than when it came to me in 2007.
This year I put in a large new septic system, eliminating overboard discharge of sewage into the harbor. It was more costly than the roof.
I am not asking for praise in these discussions, just accuracy.

Yet you expected President Obama to clean up the humongous mess -- two unpaid for wars, a destroyed budget, a financial disaster of epic proportions -- left by the GOP in less than 4?
Just out of curiosity, were the former owners of Port Clyde fighting and kicking your attempts to repair it every step of the way? Did the town take an oath to ensure you were a "one-termer" using obstruction every time you attempted to make a repair?
Just looking for a little more accuracy here!

Linda Bean has to to be a blooming idiot to not understand that Romney and Ryan are far more closer to being Hitlerian then President Obama. It amazes me that so many right wing nuts try to say the President is a communist and Hitlerian. I don't think that they really understand the difference in the two.

(45,319 posts)off seasons in order to make sure all those 'libertarians' kneel to their Party's nominee, in this case Willard Romney the Outsource King. Paul dupes his simple minded, idiotic followers into being good little Republicans, which is all they really are anyway. He keeps them busy while the real decisions are made then delivers them to the Party elite to snack upon. His followers are so dense they don't even understand that they are just mainstream Republicans who vote for every Republican the Party tells them to vote for.
This Bean sounds like a particularly virulent strain of that type of dupe. Self interested but not self made, she falls easily into the foolish rhetoric she has been taught by the Paul branch of the GOP. The cowardice she shows in this thread is worthy of note, for it defines Republicans to a tee. Bluster but no back up. Hyperbolic and basically unamerican libels bleated in support of Willard.
